Tui ( Spanish Tuy ) is a Spanish border town to Portugal in the south of the autonomous region of Galicia . On the Galician side, it forms the most important border crossing with Portugal. The border runs in the Rio Miño River , on the right bank of which the city lies.
Tui is the seat of the Roman Catholic diocese of Tui-Vigo .

history
During the construction of a road, traces of human settlement from the Stone Age ( Old Palaeolithic ) were found.
During the Visigoth period , their king Witiza resided in Tui at the beginning of the 8th century . At the beginning of the 11th century, the city was attacked by the Vikings .

Tui has a beautiful old town, various churches, monasteries and museums such as:

Important buildings, such as the former municipal theater, have fallen into disrepair. For the most part, the old town still makes a very well-kept impression.
On the opposite side of the border river Miño lies - enclosed in the large bastion - the corresponding Portuguese border town Valença .
traffic
Tui is connected to the Spanish highway network via the Autovía A-55 and the Autopista AP-9 . Tui is also connected to the Spanish rail network.
Town twinning
In April 2013, the town twinning agreement was signed with the Westphalian city of Versmold . Versmold, with around 21,500 inhabitants, belongs to the Gütersloh district .
