The first season of the US sitcom Two and a Half Men celebrated its premiere on 22 September 2003 on the transmitter CBS . The German-language premiere sent the German Free TV transmitter ProSieben and ORF eins practically simultaneously from March 12 to August 20 of 2005.

In German-speaking countries, the first season was broadcast under the title Mein cooler Unkel Charlie . From the second season the original American title was used and the German title was added as an addition: Two and a Half Men - Mein cooler Unkel Charlie .

Bachelor Charlie Harper lives in a Malibu beach house , has an overpaid job, and goes out with beautiful women all the time. When his uptight brother Alan is thrown out of their house by his wife Judith, he shows up at Charlie's in the middle of the night. He's staying there for the next few days and bringing his son Jake with him. Shortly afterwards, his wife tells him that she is a lesbian. Because, according to Alan, Charlie is not good for Jake, because he teaches him the word "ship", for example, or lets him play poker with friends and his ex-flame, Rose, who stalks him, tapes up his closets, Alan and Jake move to Alans and Charlie's Mother one. After a week, Alan realizes that his mother is worse than Charlie, and he moves in with Jake again.

Jake annoys Charlie because he leaves his juice packets on his wing and feeds seagulls, which promptly move into Jake's room and cannot be scared away. Charlie cannot punish Jake for this, however, as there is nothing left that he can take away from him. Meanwhile, Alan is still doing some work for Judith, like repairing the lawn sprinkler . However, Judith tells Alan that she wants them to split up for good. In the end the seagulls disappear from Jake's room because they couldn't find any more food there. Charlie also finds out that he can punish Jake by buying him new game consoles but forbidding him to play with them for a certain period of time.

Because Jake becomes ill, he will be brought back to Judith over the weekend. Charlie and Alan then go to a bar and get drunk on tequila. Completely drunk in a taxi, they discover that their mother's upbringing is to blame for their broken life, and they bluntly tell the taxi driver about their private lives. It later emerges that Charlie and Alan, without knowing it, appeared on a TV show called "The Stupidest Taxi Reports".

So Alan wants to do this work in exchange for being allowed to live with Charlie. However, he's not as good at it as Berta, so he has to persuade her to come back. Ultimately, she agrees, but she does not wash Alan's laundry and does not buy anything for him. He also has to use his skills as a chiropractor to straighten her back twice a week. Meanwhile, the stalker Rose Charlie uses a trick to invite her to dinner.

Charlie accompanies Jake to a soccer game, where he meets the single mother Kate, among others. He goes out with her once, but she doesn't want Charlie to be her boyfriend because she has such big money problems and says he shouldn't do that to himself. Two of the soccer mothers also vie for Alan's favor, but Alan is injured when he listens at the door during a clarifying conversation between the mothers, so that there is no relationship.

Jake discovers a tattooed butterfly on the buttocks of half-naked Cindy, which he paints at school on the subject of "drawing something interesting from your house" including buttocks. Judith then comes to Charlie's house and calls him accountable. However, Charlie always replies with his phrase "I understand", which means nothing to him, but is only intended to satisfy the interlocutor. Because Judith is overjoyed about it, she comes back to Charlie to cry herself over at him, but where she instead meets Cindy, who finally teaches her to surf. Because Alan suspects that they have started a relationship, he tells her he's okay, which makes Judith pissed off because she has nothing with Cindy. Meanwhile, Jake learns to distinguish fake breasts from real ones, and at the end of the episode he also uses Charlie's “I see”.

Jake's fourth grade is to present a musical performance on the theme of " Industrial Revolution ". Judith uses a trick to get Charlie to help, but only as a pianist, as Judith and Alan find his lyrics unsuitable. On the day of the rehearsal, Alan receives the divorce papers from Judith's lawyer, so that the two only argue and leave Charlie alone with the children. He actually wanted to cancel the rehearsal, but in the end they sing, Charlie's advertising jingles. They then also sing these at the demonstration of the Industrial Revolution.

Charlie suspects she never wants to go away again, which turns out to be wrong. While Charlie understands that he has a wrong opinion about its effect on women, Alan plays Scrabble with Rose. Towards the end of the episode, Charlie apologizes to Rose for constantly disregarding her after her one-night stand.

Charlie gets a call from his old friend Lisa. She only wants his friendship because she's getting married and doesn't think Charlie could change. But since he wants to get back together with her, he wants to prove to her that he is capable of change and therefore invites her to a family Thanksgiving. A lot goes wrong in the process, including because Charlie pays Jake to portray Charlie Lisa well and to praise him in pre-formulated texts. Evelyn tells Judith's parents that she is a lesbian, and Rose turns up surprisingly. During the feast, the climax comes when Charlie briefly threatens Evelyn with the turkey knife and then wildly shreds it in anger. Lisa decides not to return to Charlie but to get married, but promises to contact him in the event of a divorce.

Charlie and Alan meet Judith, who is on a date with Jake's soccer coach, at the cinema. Because Judith has changed and looks fantastic and Alan has noticed that he is not exactly attractive to women, he wants to change too. Charlie tries to help him find his look, but despite many attempts they have to find a gay in the clothing store who eventually recommends a sports jacket. While everyone agrees that it makes Alan look much better, he notes that it still doesn't have the same effect on women as other men do.

Berta brings her 16-year-old granddaughter Prudence to Malibu, where she is supposed to support her grandmother. Charlie and Alan have to keep to themselves again and again, because if they did something with her, they would end up in jail because of their minority. That night, Prudence shows up at the beach house with her fiancé, whom nobody knew about, and tells that Berta, when she found out about him, threw them both out of the house. In the end, Berta and Prudence's mother also come to Charlie to get Prudence, but the mother is just like Prudence and wants to give Charlie her number right away, whereupon Berta takes both mother and daughter away.

Alan catches a bad cold. Because Charlie's date is looking for a companion for her sister, a soap opera star, Charlie finds Alan despite his illness. He tries to get well, although nobody is taking proper care of him. When Charlie also gets the flu, Alan tries to cure him by using his skills as a chiropractor, which Charlie refuses. It doesn't come to the date.

Because Charlie throws his money around, he goes broke. After his accountant tells him that he has no cash left, he realizes he needs to save and Alan helps him. He can only buy cheap goods in the supermarket and no longer the branded products he is used to, which he does not like at all. He desperately wants his lifestyle back and decides with Alan to borrow something from her mother Evelyn. After she has written a check, she wants to go out to eat with her sons, which Charlie sees as a condition for lending them, which is why he tears the check up. Ultimately, Rose lends him something, actually using the money as an excuse to get closer to Charlie.

When Charlie and Alan walk into the dentist's underground car park, they notice the blonde Frankie ( Jenna Elfman ), who smashes her psychiatrist's car with a baseball bat. After Alan accidentally triggered the alarm system on the car, they escape with Frankie and take her to Malibu. There she plays with Charlie and Alan, saying things like, “I think I'm going to take a hot bath now. Which of you is lathering my back with soap? ”. While Charlie and Alan still stand there puzzled, she runs into the bathroom. In addition, she reveals practically nothing about herself, but towards the end she pulls the little girl Joanie up.

Frankie brings her 8-year-old daughter Joanie to the beach house. She explains that she married a rich man and that her in-laws never liked her. After the death of her husband, her in-laws wanted custody of Joanie because they consider Frankie unsuitable as a mother. Therefore, the psychiatrist was also ordered by the court. Because Frankie doesn't want to lose Joanie under any circumstances, she takes her to see Charlie and Alan. While she starts a relationship with Alan, Joanie always runs after Jake, who in turn is annoyed by this. Then the person sitting next to him tells him that he is Jill - with the difference that he is now a man and his name is Bill. Bill joins Charlie at the beach house, where he is introduced to Alan and Evelyn. When he starts a relationship with Evelyn, Alan is initially bothered by the big age difference, but he is only completely shocked when Charlie tells him about Jill-Bill. Berta also recognizes from a picture that Jill is now Bill. On Charlie's advice, Bill Evelyn explains his condition, whereupon Evelyn is also shocked at first, but does not want to end the relationship, on the contrary, wants to continue it.

The psychiatrist tells Charlie, Judith and Alan that she has found no reason for Jake's reticence and that it is not, as Judith suspected, related to the divorce. Ultimately, Berta solves the problem by giving Jake plum juice in the evenings, clearing the constipation that caused his behavior.

She is in bed with Charlie a little later, but only based on the words: "I don't have to like you to want you." In the purely physical relationship, Laura only sets the condition that Charlie always, when she wants, ready for her and sleeping with her. Finally, Alan, accompanied by Charlie, goes to Jake's child psychologist Linda Freeman, who incites him to let his pent-up anger about Judith and her behavior run free. In the end, Alan succeeds in doing this and hits Charlie, who plays Judith in a role-playing game, with a Bataka.

Jake memorizes one of Charlie's misogynistic sayings and repeats it in the presence of Judith's divorce victims' support group. The group then talks to Alan, because they don't want Jake to be exposed to the misogynistic climate, and say that Alan may see his son on the weekends, but Jake is no longer allowed to contact Charlie. Charlie knows that you can't be angry with him for long and takes advantage of that by going to Judith's support group, apologizing and comforting the other women. They love him and then meet in Malibu, but Judith offers Alan an exchange. She wants her friends back and Charlie is never allowed to set foot in her house again, so they revert to the original custody agreement.

Charlie panics when a friend suspects she is pregnant. To avoid this problem forever, he decides to get sterilized. Charlie wants to freeze his sperm so that he can have children if the worst comes to the worst. When he finally sits on the operating chair, the doctor has to give birth to his child and postpones Charlie's appointment. But he changes his mind and does not allow the sterilization to be carried out. Instead, he invites the nurse on a date.
