The United States Soccer Federation ( USSF ), usually referred to as US Soccer , is the official football association of the United States of America .

Based in Chicago , the association oversees the country's FIFA-sanctioned leagues. He is also responsible for the US men's and women's national teams and their junior teams. The beach soccer , futsal and Paralympic national teams are also under the control of the USSF.

The USSF monitors the work of all affiliated referees. It organizes the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup as the country's national cup.

The association has been a member of FIFA since 1914 and CONCACAF since 1961 .

history

The United States Football Association was established on April 5, 1913 and was officially established on August 15, 1913. This makes it one of the oldest FIFA associations, of which it has been a member since 1914. In 1945 the name was changed to United States Soccer Football Association. The association has had its current name since 1974.

National training center

In 2003 the association opened its national training center, which is located at the StubHub Center in Carson, California . The complex also includes a football stadium, which is home to the major league soccer franchise Los Angeles Galaxy .

Professional Leagues (Men)

The country's leagues are independent organizations and are sanctioned by the USSF to allow participation in national and continental competitions. The USSF also acts as a monitoring body here.

Major League Soccer

The Major League Soccer is the highest professional league in the United States and Canada. It was founded in 1996 and both US and Canadian teams play in it. The individual clubs are organized as franchises and acquire the rights to participate in match operations from the MLS, which also defines the entry criteria for a possible new team.

North American Soccer League

The North American Soccer League has existed since 2011 . It was the second highest league in the USA and Canada until 2017. The organization consists of the franchise owners of the individual teams who jointly decide on the interests of the league. Since the necessary conditions were not met by the league, the USSF withdrew the league's status as the second highest league.

United Soccer Leagues

The United Soccer Leagues is an organization that administers several leagues in the USA and Canada. They also represent the second tier of the league, at times parallel to NASL, in US football, the United Soccer League . This was founded in 2010 and is a merger of the previous USL First Division and USL Second Division . The USL Premier Development League is located below this.

National Women's Soccer League

The National Women's Soccer League has existed as the first division in the country since 2013. It is also the only professional league in women's football in the United States.

The second tier in the league system is the USL W-League and the Women's Premier Soccer League .
