Insignia

Insignia of the boat

The four stars in the USS Hampton's insignia symbolize the four cities after which the ship is named: Hampton in Virginia , Iowa , South Carolina and New Hampshire . The silhouette of the current USS Hampton can be seen on a blue background , in front of it the silhouette of the CSS Hampton , which was built and used in 1862. Below is the motto of the boat, Qui Desiderant Pacem Preparate Bellum (German: Those who want peace, prepare for war ).

history

The contract to build the Hampton was awarded to Newport News Shipbuilding in 1987 , and the keel was laid in 1990 at the Newport News , Virginia shipyard . The launch and christening of the ship took place after 25 months of construction, and in 1993 the Hampton was put into service with the US Navy.

In 2004, the Hampton met with the British Trafalgar- class submarine , HMS Tireless (S88) under the North Pole and emerged through the Arctic ice. In 2007, the Hampton participated in the Valiant Shield exercise .

In March 2008, the commander of the boat was released from his command and ten other crew members were punished after it became known that inspection data for the water in the reactor had been falsified, among other things. In October 2008, the submarine moved under new command to the Western Pacific. During another mission in May 2011 it docked in Hong Kong, among other places.
