USS Buffalo (SSN-715) , a hunting submarine of the Los Angeles-class submarine was the third ship of the US Navy , the city name Buffalo in the State of New York wore.
history
The construction contract for SSN-715 went to the Newport News Shipbuilding yard in Virginia on February 23, 1976 and the unit was laid down on January 25, 1980. Joanne Kemp led the christening of the ship, in 1993 the Buffalo was put into service.
In 1999 the Buffalo was converted to transport a Dry Deck Shelter (DDS). In 2002 she was moved to the dry dock of the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard , where an engineered refueling overhaul was carried out. The Buffalo was the first submarine to have this refilling of its nuclear reactor in combination with an overhaul in Hawaii .
At the end of November 2005, an underwater vehicle was deployed on board the DDS for the first time, which was used for reconnaissance and satellite-controlled data transmission. In mid-2006 the Buffalo left her home port and spent six months in the western Pacific. In the summer of 2007, the submarine finally changed the home port of Hawaii and was stationed in Apra Harbor on Guam . A six-month overhaul in Pearl Harbor followed in 2009.
