The USS Boise (SSN-764) is a nuclear-powered submarine of the United States Navy and is part of the Los Angeles-class submarine to. It was named after the city of Boise , Idaho .
history
SSN-764 was commissioned in 1987. In August 1988 the keel of the boat was laid at Newport News Shipbuilding , the hull of the Boise was launched on March 23, 1991 , and the ship was christened. After the final equipment and a few test drives, the submarine was officially put into service at the end of 1992.
In 2002 the boat drove with the carrier combat group around the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) and took part in Operation Enduring Freedom . A year later, the Boise was involved in Operation Iraqi Freedom , during the opening phase of the invasion of the US armed forces, the submarine shot down its twelve BGM-109 Tomahawk from the Vertical Launching System at land targets in Iraq. The then in command of the Boise , Cmdr. James M. Kuzma, received the Bronze Star for this .
At the end of 2006, the Boise laid for around seven months, completely circling the earth and mainly performing operations in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. In the summer of 2008, the submarine left its port for a six-month voyage in European waters. In 2010 the Boise repeated this trip.
In 2017, the boat was decommissioned after its diving certification was revoked. It is currently (as of February 2017) at the Norfolk naval base and awaiting a shipyard appointment in October. 15 months are scheduled for maintenance work.
