The USS Jefferson City (SSN-759) is a nuclear-powered submarine of the United States Navy and is part of the Los Angeles-class submarine to. It was named after the city of Jefferson City , Missouri .

history

The contract for the submarine was awarded to Newport News Shipbuilding in 1984 . The keel was laid there in September 1987, and construction took almost three years. After the launch on August 17, 1990, the final equipment at the pier and test drives followed, on February 29, 1992, the Jefferson City was officially put into service.

In 1996, Jefferson City was involved in the Tomahawk attacks on targets in Iraq as part of Operation Desert Strike . In 2003 a longer overhaul and modernization phase followed in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard . In September 2007, the submarine relocated to the western Pacific and returned to San Diego in March 2008. The next trips into the same waters began in October 2009 and October 2011.
