uThukela (also Uthukela , English uThukela District Municipality ) is a district within the province of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa . It has 668,848 inhabitants (as of October 2011) on a total area of ​​11,326 km². The district administration is based in Ladysmith .

The district is named after the Tugela ( isiZulu uThukela ), one of the largest rivers in KwaZulu-Natal.

In 2016, the parishes of Emnambithi-Ladysmith and Indaka were merged to form the Alfred Duma parish, and the Imbabazane and Umtshezi parishes merged to form Inkosi Langalibalele .
