The clock head , also called clock mountain , is about 405  m above sea level. NHN high elevation on the Edersee in the Kellerwald-Edersee nature park in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district in northern Hesse . In terms of nature, it belongs to the main Kellerwald unit .

geography

location

The clock head rises in the northeast part of the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park between the Waldecker core city in the north and Hemfurth-Edersee (district of Edertal ) in the southwest. Its summit is about 350 m east of the north end of the "Edertalsperre", the dam of the Edersee . The pulpit ( 399.3  m ) joins to the north-north-west with another vantage point and to the south-east of the Michelskopf ( 424.7  m ).

Parts of the fauna-flora-habitat area Edersee steep slopes (FFH no. 4720-304; 6.9746  ha ) are located on the wooded mountain .

Natural allocation

The clock head belongs in the natural spatial main unit group West Hessisches Bergland (No. 34) and in the main unit Kellerwald (344) to the subunit Ederseetrog (344.4). To the east, as part of the main unit Ostwaldecker Randsenken (341) in the subunit Wildunger Senke (341.5), the natural area Netzehügelland (341.50) borders.

Lookout point

About 250 m south of the Uhrenkopf summit and 350 m east-southeast of the north end of the Edersee dam is the lookout point on the cliffs ( 343.1  m ), which is 138.7 m above the Edertal ( 204.4  m ) and at the storage target ( 244.97  m ) 98.13 m above the water surface of the reservoir.

From there, the view falls on the dam wall with its hydroelectric power station , the Hemfurth power station , and the lake area near the wall with the Hammerberg (approx. 335  m ) opposite  , on which the Edersee wildlife park is hidden in the forest . You can also see the Edertal village of Hemfurth-Edersee on the other side of the Edertal and the Kellerwald , in which, for example, the neighboring elevations Ermerod ( 540  m ) and Peterskopf (approx.  507  m ) can be seen, which are located a little further south above the Affolderner See and on which the two upper basins of the Waldeck pumped storage plant are located.

Transport links and hiking

The clock head and the lookout point on the cliffs can only be reached on hiking trails , including those coming from the north in the direction of Waldeck via the shared hiking trails Habichtswaldsteig , Kellerwaldsteig , student path and Urwaldsteig Edersee . They run over a length of about 4 km on the mountain ridge, which is partly lined with oak trees (with a pulpit there ) on the eastern part of the Edersee, directly past the viewpoint and over the southern high elevations of the mountain. In addition, the Ederhöhenweg leads from the south to close to the lookout point . Furthermore, near the northeast end of the dam, near the parking lots on Landesstraße  3086, which runs from Affolderner See to Edersee, a short path begins, which leads steeply uphill to the lookout point.
