Ulcerate is a death metal band that in 2000 in Auckland ( New Zealand was founded).
history
The band was founded in 2000 by Jamie Saint Merat (drums), Michael Hoggard (electric guitar) and singer Mark Seeney under the name "Bloodwreath". The band rehearsed and played a few concerts together. In 2002, Jared Commerer joined the band as an additional guitarist and James "Slippy" Wallace was the new singer. They worked together on the first recordings and eventually changed their name to "Ulcerate". In 2003 they released their first demo called Ulcerate .
In 2004 the second demo, The Coming of Genocide, followed . Both demos were produced and published by the band themselves. In 2006, both demos were released as a compilation on a CD under the name The Coming of Genocide via The Flood Records and Deepsend Records .
In April 2006 the band signed a contract with the Neurotic Records label . The band began preparations for their first album called Of Fracture and Failure , but these were interrupted by the departure of singer Wallace. The new singer of the band was Ben Read. The album was recorded and mixed by Jamie Saint Merat and Michael Hoggard. The album was mastered on the West West Side in New York City by Alan Douches . With the release of the album, the band achieved greater notoriety, allowing them to play alongside bands such as Suffocation , Behemoth , Decapitated , Nile , The Black Dahlia Murder , Psycroptic , The Amenta and Cephalic Carnage .
In 2008 the line-up of the band was changed again. Bassist Paul Kelland also took over the position of singer Ben Read. In the same year the band began preparing for the second album. In early 2009 guitarist Michael Rothwell left the band and was replaced by Oliver Goater. The second album Everything Is Fire was released earlier this year.
The third album The Destroyers of All was released on January 25, 2011 on Willowtip Records .
The fourth album Vermis was released on September 13, 2013 on Relapse Records .
style
Characteristic for the band is the high technical level of the pieces and the extensive use of dissonances. The works are described as a mix between Neurosis or Isis and Gorguts , Hate Eternal and Immolation .
