Ulrich Justus Hermann Becker , actually Ulrich Becker , also Ulrich Justus Becker u. a. m. (Born June 26, 1791 in Klein Gievitz ; † October 6, 1843 in Domhof Ratzeburg ) was a German high school teacher .

Life

Ulrich (Justus Hermann) Becker was born as the son of the Mecklenburg-Schwerin estate secretary and councilor Georg Jacob Becker (1761–1826) and his wife, the pastor's daughter Christine Magdalena, nee. Beckmann (1766-1850), born. After attending the Carolinum grammar school in Neustrelitz , he studied Protestant theology and philology at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and the Universität Jena from 1809 . He became a member of the Mecklenburg Corps Vandalia Heidelberg (1810) and Vandalia Jena (1810).

To the Dr. phil. after receiving his doctorate , he was a teacher at the Fellenberg Institute in Hofwyl in the Swiss canton of Bern from 1814 . In 1818 he went to the Ratzeburg Cathedral School as a teacher and became its prorector in 1819. A high school professor , characterized since 1830 , he held the post of rector as the successor to Karl Friedrich Ludwig Arndt from 1839 until his death .

In 1835, Becker was one of the founding members of the Association for Mecklenburg History and Archeology . He had been friends with the landowner and politician Carl von Behr-Negendank since his school days in Neustrelitz . He died on the Ratzeburg cathedral peninsula, which belongs to Mecklenburg-Strelitz. His grave is in the cemetery at the Ratzeburg Cathedral .

Ulrich Becker was with Mathilde, geb. Hufeland, daughter of Gottlieb Hufeland , married. The marriage resulted in nine children, including the pastor Eberhard Becker (1823-1897), the ophthalmologist Otto Becker (1828-1890) and the engineer and railway operations director Bernhard Becker (1829-1913).
