Ulrich Imboden

Ulrich Imboden (born November 26, 1911 in St. Niklaus ; † May 6, 1988 ibid) was a Swiss entrepreneur , politician , mountaineer and mountain guide . Up until the 1960s, he built his company into the largest Swiss private construction company and is considered a pioneer in mountain hut and mountain construction.

Family and mountain guide

Ulrich Imboden from St. Niklaus in the canton of Valais was the third child of the Paulina Pollinger (1889–1955) and Franz Imboden (1882–1967) families. Paulina Pollinger was a daughter of the mountain guide Alois Pollinger . Franz Imboden obtained the mountain guide diploma in 1904 according to the ordinance of the canton of Valais dated May 2, 1894. He practiced the profession of mountain guide for 54 years and, together with his brother-in-law Josef Pollinger, was the first guide to make first ascent in 1910 on the Dent Blanche ( 4357  m ) and on Pollux ( 4092  m ), 1911 on Obergabelhorn ( 4063  m ), 1912 on Mont Blanc ( 4810  m ) and 1914 on the western summit of Liskamm ( 4480  m ).

After several tours carried out with his father Franz as porter, Ulrich Imboden acquired the mountain guide diploma in 1934 according to the ordinance of the Canton of Valais of February 13, 1925. The entries in Ulrich Imboden's guide book No. 857 go back to 1942.

Entrepreneur

Father Franz Imboden worked from 1926 to 1932 on the construction of the dry stone wall along the Jungtalweg - Alpine Flower Path , which was closed with protruding stones. In 1933 he and Josef Lengen were commissioned to build a lot on the Illas - St. Niklaus road .

In 1935, son Ulrich Imboden founded his construction company, which employed around 700 people in the early 1960s. Imboden was one of the largest entrepreneurs in the canton of Valais. His company is still in construction and civil engineering business.

Quartzite plate fractures Lochmatter

On April 23, 1944, Ulrich Imboden and his year-old Erwin Lochmatter acquired the concession to mine the quartzite in the area of ​​the municipality of St. Niklaus. Lochmatter took over the St. Niklaus quarries and managed their operations, while Imboden concentrated on managing the construction company. On October 24, 1954, the municipality of St. Niklaus extended the mining concession of Lochmatter and Imboden, with Imboden ceding his concession rights to Lochmatter on November 11 of the same year and the mining operation and construction company were now completely separate from each other.

Hermann Geiger and mountain hut construction

On the initiative of Ulrich Imboden, Hermann Geiger (1914–1966) and his Piper undertook transport flights for the Ulrich Imboden company from 1951, for example to the Rothornhütte at 3,198  m above sea level. M. and to the Mutthornhütte at 2901  m above sea level. M. The goods were appropriately packed and dropped on target. Ulrich Imboden was elected to the St. Niklaus parish council in 1945 . From 1945 to 1960 he was Vice President and Police Commissioner .

From 1945 to 1966 Ulrich Imboden was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Valais as representative of the Visp district . In 1961, as a candidate for the Christian Democratic People's Party of Upper Valais (CVPO), he achieved the top results of all parties in the district.
