Ulrich de Mont
Ulrich de Mont (Demont) (born January 1, 1624 in Vella , Val Lumnezia ( German : Lugnez); † February 28, 1692 in Chur ) was a Roman Catholic bishop of the diocese of Chur .
family
The Graubünden noble family Mont (von Mont, de Mont, Demont) is mentioned as early as 1300 in Sumvitg . Heinrich von Mont, named in Vella around 1372, is said to be the progenitor. It is possible that his three sons Burkhard, Rudolf and Wilhelm, who are named in the first half of the 15th century, have lines. Gallus von Mont (1537–1608) and Hanns von Mont (1557–1604 mentioned) were sons of Wilhelm von Mont and Klara von Jochberg . Lucius de Mont, son of Hanns from his second marriage with Perpetua of Schauenstein , was bailiff (mayor) of the high court Lugnenz. From 1613 to 1632 he was four times district judge of the Gray League ; he was a colonel in the French service. His son Albert, Landschreiber of the Gray League, was the father of Ulrich de Mont.
Life
Ulrich de Mont was the son of the land clerk Albert de Mont and his wife Margaretha de Marmels . He attended school in the Disentis monastery . From 1639 he studied philosophy at the University of Dillingen an der Donau , graduating in 1646 with a master's degree . His entry into the Jesuit order was rejected by the Propaganda Congregation. On September 16, 1649, he was ordained a priest in the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin in Chur and from 1650 to 1656 he was pastor in Domat / Ems . In 1656 his uncle renounced the benefice as cathedral cantor , which was transferred to his nephew.
On February 23, 1661, the Chur cathedral chapter elected Ulrich de Mont to succeed Johann Flugi von Aspermont, who died on January 24, 1661, as the new bishop of Chur. The election was confirmed by Pope Alexander VII on December 19, 1661. He was ordained bishop on December 14, 1636 in the Cathedral of Chur by the Apostolic Nuncio in Switzerland, Archbishop Federico Borromeo , a cousin of St. Carl Borromeo . On June 16, 1663 he received the imperial regalia from Emperor Leopold I. He was the first bishop to be recognized by the Church of God . He saw the main task in his diocese in visiting his parishes and organizations. However, the women's monasteries ( Dominican Sisters of Maria Steinach near Algund and the Franciscan Sisters of St. Klara in Meran ) refused this visitation, citing their independence. With the assistance of the Nunciature through the articulated nuns one, which did not prevent the bishop of it, the prioress and confessor to excommunicate , but he picked up again later. In 1670 he issued new statutes for monastery reform for the Benedictine convent of St. Johann in Müstair .
Bishop Ulrich VI. von Mont died on February 28, 1692 in Chur and was buried in the crypt of the Assumption Cathedral in Chur.
