The Catholic branch church of Our Lady (Immaculate Conception) in Machtenstein , a district of the Schwabhausen community in the Upper Bavarian district of Dachau , was built in the middle of the 17th century on the site of a previous Gothic church. The church, which is consecrated to the Immaculate Conception of Mary, is one of the protected architectural monuments in Bavaria.

history

The first evidence for the church of Machtenstein can be found on the map of Bavaria by Philipp Apian , published in 1568 , on which the church - still with a pointed helmet - is drawn. This Gothic church, which was probably built around 1550, was destroyed during the Thirty Years War . The lords of the Hofmark , the Hundt zu Lautterbach , had a new church built in its place in 1654. Around 1719 the vault that had collapsed was replaced by a flat ceiling. The Machtensteiner Church with the patronage of the Immaculate Conception is mentioned for the first time in writing in the so-called Schmidt register of the Diocese of Freising, created in 1738/40 . Until 1896 Machtenstein belonged to the parish Sulzemoos and since then to Kreuzholzhausen .

Exterior construction

In the apex of the choir stands the 20-meter-high bell tower divided into six floors by cornices . It has a square base and an octagonal structure crowned with an onion dome. The sacristy is set up on the first floor of the tower . A sundial is painted on the south side of the nave, underneath, in a small niche, the representation of Maria Immaculata reminds of the patronage of the church. Next to it hangs a mission cross , probably from the 19th century , under a jagged tin roof .

inner space

To the east of the single-nave nave , the non-retracted choir connects seamlessly with a three-eighth end . The flat ceiling is decorated with a profiled stucco frame . In the west a staircase leads to the wooden gallery with a simple parapet.

Furnishing

  • The two-pillar altar dates from the time the church was rebuilt after the vault collapsed in 1719. In the arched niche in the middle there is a wood-carved pietà , behind it the apostle John and two women, from around 1550. The two assistants who Saint Barbara (left) and Saint Catherine (right), who are represented with their attributes , the tower and the sword, are also dated to around 1550. On the altar extract is veil of Veronica shown. On the side you can see two angels with the tools of passion . The two smaller figures next to the tabernacle represent the peasant saints Wendelin (left) and Leonhard .
  • The figures in the choir, the sculptural group of Anna selbdritt , the Rosary Madonna and Saint Rasso , who is represented in knight armor and with a sword, stand in a niche in the choir, date from around 1700 .
  • The almost two meter high figure of St. Sebastian on the north side of the nave is dated to the early 17th century.
  • Two other figures on the north wall, St. Joseph and St. Anthony of Padua , both depicted with the baby Jesus in their arms and the lily, the symbol of chastity, are works from the 18th century.
  • On the south wall of the nave, St. Ottilie is depicted with her attributes, the abbess's staff and the two eyeballs.
  • The wooden crucifix next to it was probably carved at the end of the 17th century. The body of the crucified is littered with an unusually large number of wounds.
  • Saint Notburga is depicted on a leaded glass window in the south nave . It was executed in 1935 by the Dachau glass painter Syrius Eberle based on a design by Hermann Stockmann .
