Uwe Ehlers (born March 8, 1975 in Rostock ) is a former German soccer player and current coach . He has been employed as a trainer at Hansa Rostock since 2014 .

Athletic career

Club career

The defender began his professional career in 1993 at Hansa Rostock , from whose offspring he came. Here he played for two years in the 2nd Bundesliga and five years in the Bundesliga . In 116 league games he scored five goals for the Hanseatic League.

In 1999 he switched to TSV 1860 Munich . Here the defender played 42 first division games. In summer 2003 he moved to FC Augsburg . There he played 40 games in a year and a half and scored two goals. From January 2005 to summer 2007 Ehlers was under contract with FC Erzgebirge Aue . For the 2007/08 season he moved to the second division promoted VfL Osnabrück . After only five games in two years and relegation to the 3rd division , Ehlers finally returned to his homeland in 2009 to support Hansa Rostock's second team in the Regionalliga Nord at the end of his career as an experienced leader .

Selection bets

Ehlers represented the colors of his country, at that time still the GDR , as a member of the younger youth team beyond the borders of his Mecklenburg homeland in the autumn of 1989 . Even after reunification , the defender remained in the focus of the selection coach - no longer from the DFV , but from the DFB .

In the German U21 national team , the defender played 19 international matches in which he scored three goals. At the European Championships in 1998 he finished 5th with the junior team supervised by Hannes Löhr .

Coaching career

Ehlers has been an assistant trainer at Hansa Rostock since July 2014. After Karsten Baumann's dismissal as a result of his away defeat on the 19th matchday of the third division 2015/16 season at Halleschen FC , he briefly took over the training of the first team as an interim coach. But already on the 20th matchday, Baumann's successor Christian Brand was sitting on the Hansa coaching chair. On the last matchday of 2016/17 he took over the coaching position for the brand on leave and won the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Cup five days later with the Hansa professionals .

During the 2019/20 winter break, Ehlers was appointed head coach of the A-Juniors in addition to his position as assistant to the first team, initially only until the end of the season.

Private

His son Kevin is also a professional soccer player. He was trained at FC Hansa between 2009 and 2017.
