Uwe Fecht

Uwe Fecht (born June 21, 1959 - † October 4, 2017 in Cologne ) was a German football player and coach . For MSV Duisburg he played 77 games in the 2nd Bundesliga .

Player career

Fecht moved up in 1982 after the first relegation of MSV Duisburg in its squad. In the opening game against FSV Frankfurt on August 7, 1982, the defender was right in the starting line-up and thus made his professional debut in the 2nd Bundesliga. He was then regularly called up, but could not establish himself as a regular player. At the end of the 1983/84 season he finished third with his team, which meant the relegation against Eintracht Frankfurt for promotion to the Bundesliga . In the 5-0 defeat in the first leg he was part of the starting line-up, but was replaced when the score was 2-0. The return encounter ended with 1: 1, so that Duisburg was clearly defeated in the sum of both qualifying games.

Then Fecht moved in the summer of 1984 to VfL Rhede in the third-class Oberliga Nordrhein . With his previously promoted teammates, he achieved relegation at the end of the 1984/85 season and then returned to MSV Duisburg. In this he was then mostly in the starting line-up, but could not avert relegation to the Oberliga Nordrhein in 1986 . He remained loyal to the club afterwards, but the sought-after promotion was missed in the following season. In 1987 he left the MSV after a total of 77 second division games and 27 top division games. In both leagues he scored one goal for MSV. Then he moved to league rivals Wuppertaler SV . With this he became the league champion in 1990 and took part in the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga without success.

Coaching career

In the early days of his work as a trainer, Fecht worked in the youth division of his ex-club Wuppertaler SV and also coached the amateur clubs VfB Schwelm , SV Hohenlimburg and, in 2006, the district league team TuS Ennepetal in preparation for the season . From 2006 he worked in the scouting area for Borussia Mönchengladbach . In 2008 he was hired by another previous employer when he took over the second team of MSV Duisburg , which was then playing in the NRW League . In 2009 he changed his position within the club and became the coach of the U-19 junior team, which he remained until 2011. For the 2012/13 season he again took over the Ennepetaler, who are now playing in the major league, and then worked as a scout for the second team of FC Schalke 04 . For the 2014 season , the fourth division club KFC Uerdingen 05 hired him as an assistant coach and youth coordinator. At the end of the season, the club was relegated to the fifth division, which is why the coaching team was dismissed shortly before the end of the season. In the 2015/16 season , Fecht was assistant coach of the regional league team Alemannia Aachen .

From January 2017 , Uwe Fecht was assistant coach of the U21s at 1. FC Köln under Patrick Helmes . On September 19, 2017, he suffered a heart attack on the training grounds and spent the following weeks in intensive care. On October 4, 2017, at the age of 58, he died of the consequences of the infarct in the University Hospital Cologne .
