Bispgården is a place in the Swedish province of Jämtlands län and in the historic province of Jämtland . Since the place consists of two parts of the village, which are located at a distance from each other, these have been listed by the statistics office as separate crime scenes since 1995 : Västra Bispgården ('West-Bispgården', 496 inhabitants, area 1.16 km²) and Östra Bispgården ('East- Bispgården ', 249 inhabitants, 1.25 km²; both 2015).

location

Bispgården belongs to the Ragunda municipality . The place is about 100 km as the crow flies east of the provincial capital Östersund and just under 20 km southeast of the community center Hammarstrand on the left bank of the Indalsälven . The centers of the two districts are about three kilometers apart. Västra Bispgården is upstream, northwest, and Östra Bispgården is downstream and southeast. Västra Bispgården is the third largest crime scene in the municipality after its central town Hammarstrand and Stugun . The border with the neighboring province of Västernorrlands län and the historic provinces of Ångermanland and Medelpad is not far away .

Bispgården has a station on the middle of Sweden to the ground leading railway Main Line Through Upper Norrland (Nordlandbahn, 608 kilometer from Stockholm crosses the Indalsälven above the village), the few kilometers. The state road 87 leads through the village from Sollefteå to Östersund. Reichsstraße 86 branches off at Östra Bispgården and runs down the Indalsälven to Sundsvall .

history

In 1472 the place, located in an area populated since the Middle Ages , was mentioned as Biskopsgard . The name means bishop's court and refers to the administration of the area by the Archdiocese of Uppsala at that time . It became the center of the parish of Fors, for which a first church was built in the 16th century on the site of today's church.

Attractions

Between the districts of Västra and Östra Bispgården, not far from the intersection of imperial roads 86 and 87, stands the Fors kyrka church, built in 1839 , which replaced the previous building that was demolished in 1834. The stack of bells that is still in use today dates from 1765.

Six kilometers above Västra Bispgården is Döda fallet , the Dead Waterfall , previously Gedungsen or Storforsen , which fell dry in 1796 after the Indalsälven created a new river bed as a result of the unsuccessful construction of a bypass canal for logging . A few kilometers down from Östra Bispgården there is a 28-meter-high Thai pavilion ( Thailändska paviljongen , officially King Chulalongkorns Memorial ) at the Utanede settlement . It was built in 1998 to commemorate the visit to Bispgården by Chulalongkorn , King of Siam , who also visited Sweden on his trip to Europe in 1897.

economy

The largest company in the area is a factory for rear forklift trucks . In the Bispgården area, the Indalsälven is dammed in three places and is used to generate electricity. Above the village is the Svarthålsforsen hydropower plant (output 81  MW , built 1950–1954), below the town the Stadsforsen (139 MW, 1939, rebuilt 1952) and Hölleforsen (148 MW, 1949) power plants.
