The WAS-2106 "Schiguli" ( Russian ВАЗ-2106 Жигули , English transcription VAZ-2106 ) is a limousine that AwtoWAS produced between 1976 and 2006 in Tolyatti. About 4.3 million units were created.

In December 1975 the WAS-2106, known in export as the Lada 1600, was presented. At the time it was the highest quality vehicle from AwtoWAS. The 2106 also provided the base for the Niwa . Outwardly, the 2106 was very similar to the 2103, which it soon ousted on the export markets. However, on the outside of the WAS-2106, the no longer fully chrome-plated bumpers, the radiator grille with the rectangular headlight surrounds and in particular the redesigned rear were different. The WAS-2106 received wider multi-chamber lights with integrated reversing lights instead of the simpler rear lights of the WAS-2103. In the interior there were now headrests and armrests front and rear. Real wood veneers and leather seats were available on request. There were three engines, a 1568 cc gasoline engine, a 1.45 liter engine and officially only available in the Soviet Union and not intended for export, a 1294 cc engine from the WAS-21011. In the late 1980s, the wood paneling and leather seats were replaced by plastic or synthetic leather seats. The 2106 became the entry-level model from AwtoWAS, with the exception of the Lada Oka , which was not exported. In the home market it was meanwhile still the inexpensive mass mobile under the WAS-2105 . In 1998 part of the production was transferred to RosLada in Syzran, where it was manufactured until 2002. In the same year the Tolyatti factory produced the last WAS-2106 and the rest of the production was taken over by ISh in Izhevsk. From 2003 the WAS-2106 was only built by LuAS in the Ukraine and cost around 3000 euros . Production ended in December 2005 after 4.3 million units were produced. The WAS-2106 has been the most popular car in Russian history so far. In export, the model was gradually replaced by the WAS-2108 as early as 1991 , while the WAS-1118 took its place as a mass mobile in the home market . Even then, the versions for the Canadian market had side impact protection in the doors and telescopically cushioned bumpers. A large part of the electrics came from Hella , the heated rear window was supplied by a Swedish manufacturer.
