Valentina Nafornița (* 1987 in Glodeni ) is a Moldovan opera singer ( soprano ) who belongs to the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera .

childhood and education

Nafornița learned singing, violin and dance as a child. She studied at the Stefan Neaga Conservatory in Chișinău and at the National Music University in Bucharest , among others . She has won several international competitions, including winning the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition as the youngest participant to date , where she also received the Dame Joan Sutherland Audience Award and was a finalist in the Lied Award.

Career

Nafornița has been a member of the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera since autumn 2011 , where she made her debut as Papagena in the Magic Flute and subsequently took on a variety of small and medium-sized roles, including the 2nd maid in Daphne , the Voce dal cielo in Don Carlos and one of the Six Girls of mahogany in the rise and fall of the city of Mahagonny . In October 2012 she took over the Marzelline in Fidelio for the first time and in December of the same year the Musetta in La Bohème . Nafornița also sang at the opening of the Vienna Opera Ball in 2013 and 2018. In January 2014 she sang Gilda in Rigoletto for the first time at the State Opera , in April Adina in L'elisir d'amore , in May Servilia in La clemenza di Tito and in June Pamina in Magic Flute . She also represented the State Opera on tour performances in Hamburg and Japan. In April 2015 she sang a leading role for the first time in a central premiere at the Haus am Ring, Norina in Don Pasquale , staged by Irina Brook, conducted by Jesús López Cobos .

In November 2012 the singer made her debut at La Scala in Milan as Gilda in Rigoletto under Gustavo Dudamel . In August 2013 she made her debut in an Opera de Lyon production at the Edinburgh Festival , as Marzelline in Fidelio , and received excellent reviews. In autumn she made her debuts at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin as Oscar in Un ballo in maschera and at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich as a step in the role of Gilda.

In February 2013 the artist made her debut with a lieder recital at the Wiener Musikverein , and in April she sang Musetta in concert in Amsterdam. In 2013, she toured China with the BBC Concert Orchestra . The following year she sang gala concerts with Elīna Garanča in the Göttweig Abbey and in Kitzbühel, as well as with Rolando Villazón in Aalborg, Denmark.

In 2014 she made her debut at the Salzburg Festival as Zerlina in Don Giovanni. and in 2016 in Paris in the role of Sophie (Werther) at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées together with Juan Diego Flórez and Joyce DiDonato . In 2017 she made her debut as Adina at the Hamburg State Opera . The following season, in September of the same year, Nafornița also made her debut at the Opéra national de Paris as Valencienne in The Merry Widow . She returned to the French capital in November 2017 as Servilia in La clemenza di Tito , in 2018 as Adina in L'elisir d'amore and in 2019 in the title role in Jolanthe .

In 2018 Nafornița made her debut at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma as Musetta ( La Bohème ) and her role and house debut as Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte at the Opéra de Lausanne . The latter was broadcast on Arte and was one of the most watched operas on the station's online platform in 2018.

Nafornița was invited twice to take part in the televised Christmas concert in Vienna in 2015 and 2018, which was broadcast on ORF III and Arte .

Highlights of her 2019/20 season were a role debut as Helena in Britten's Midsummer Night 's Dream , Norina in Don Pasquale , Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro and a role debut as Irina in Tri Sestri ., All at the Vienna State Opera , and Adina in L'elisir d ' amore at the Opéra de Lausanne and at the National Theater Mannheim

Her debut album Romance was released on January 10, 2020 on the Outhere Music label.

Private life

Nafornița lives in Vienna with her husband, the baritone Mihai Dogotari . She is the patron of CCF Moldova, an organization that helps children in need in their home country of Moldova .
