Valmir Nafiu ( Macedonian Валмир Нафиу; born April 23, 1994 in Tetovo ) is a North Macedonian football player .

Career

Nafiu began his career in the youth of FK Škendija in Macedonia. With his talent he made u. a. Ajax Amsterdam , FC Groningen and FC Barcelona attracted attention. For the 2010/11 season, Nafiu joined the first team at the age of 16. He was used at the beginning of the season in the Champions League qualification against FK Partizan Belgrade . In his first season Nafiu was Macedonian champion and Supercup winner.

After the season, Nafiu decided to play for FC Basel in the future . Since he was not yet 18 years old, he could not complete a move and was therefore officially a player of FK Škendija until his 18th birthday.

At the end of June 2011, Nafiu began to take part in the training camp for the pros of FC Basel at Tegernsee . Since he was not yet 18 years old at the time, he was unable to sign a contract with the Swiss club. As a guest player he completed test games and tournaments with the A-youth (U19), u. a. in the NextGen Series , and the U21 . On his 18th birthday he signed a contract and officially became a FC Basel player. He left the club without a competitive game on August 31, 2012.

At the end of August 2012, Nafiu started trial training at Hamburger SV . After he ended his involvement with FC Basel, he played a few test matches with the professionals as a clubless player. He also regularly took part in the training of the second team (U23). At the end of November Nafiu was signed for the U23. He made his debut on November 25, 2012 in the 1: 2 home defeat against SV Meppen over the full season in the fourth-class Regionalliga Nord .

Since Nafiu reached the men's age after the 2012/13 season and was therefore no longer eligible to play for the U23 as a non-EU foreigner, he moved up to the professional squad for the 2013/14 season . Under Thorsten Fink , Bert van Marwijk and Mirko Slomka , however, Nafiu did not play, but only sat on the bench a few times. He finally made his Bundesliga debut on October 25, 2014 under coach Josef Zinnbauer , when he was substituted on for Pierre-Michel Lasogga in a 74th minute of a 3-0 defeat against Hertha BSC on matchday 9 of the 2014/15 season . During the winter break, Nafiu did not travel with the team to the training camp in Dubai , as he should no longer be taken into account in the sports planning of the coaching team.

As a result, Nafiu moved to the Cypriot First Division on January 27, 2015 at APOEL Nicosia . He signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the team trained by ex-HSV trainer Thorsten Fink until June 30, 2019.
