Lance Wait Hoyt (born February 28, 1977 in Hearne , Texas ), also known by his ring name Lance Archer , is an American wrestler who is currently under contract with All Elite Wrestling .

While at World Wrestling Entertainment , Hoyt was known as Vance Archer . In Total Nonstop Action Wrestling , he was first as Dallas and later under his real name and as Lance Rock in the ring. He was active in New Japan Pro Wrestling for several years .

Hoyt is a four-time NWA World Tag Team Champion , three-time IWGP Tag Team Champion , two-time GHC Tag Team Champion and simple IWGP United States Champion .

Wrestling career

Independent leagues (since 2000)

Hoyt began his pro-wrestling career in July 2000 and initially took part in various Texan independent promotions . He made his most prominent appearances in his early years for Professional Championship Wrestling , where he was known as Shadow . In the course of his career, Hoyt was repeatedly booked for appearances by various independent promotions in the USA and Japan .

NWA Total Nonstop Action / Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (2003-2009)

On 26 November 2003 Hoyt gave as Shadow his debut for National Wrestling Alliance Total Nonstop Action (NWA-TNA) when he at the weekly NWA-TNA per-view, pay- to Don Harris lose needed. From the end of March 2004 Hoyt appeared regularly at NWA-TNA under the name Dallas on the side of Kid Kash as a tag team . In their first matches as a tag team they were able to win a tournament for the vacant NWA World Tag Team Championship . In the final on March 31, 2004, they were allowed to defeat Christopher Daniels and Lo-Ki and thus received the title. They gave it to D-Lo Brown and Gran Apolo on April 14, 2014. A week later they were allowed to win the title a second time from these. In the first issue of TNA Impact on June 3, 2004, they lost the title to America's Most Wanted ( Chris Harris and James Storm ). A week later, the promotion was renamed Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). After losing the title, Hoyt returned to singles matches . From January 2005 he used his real name Lance Hoyt as a ring name. In 2006, Hoyt formed a tag team with Ron Killings . From September 2007, Hoyt and Jimmy Rave competed as the tag team The Rock 'n Rave Infection . In May 2008, Hoyt took on the ring name Lance Rock . His last match for TNA denied Hoyt on February 23, 2009 together with Jimmy Rave for the TNA World Tag Team Championship , which they lost to Beer Money Inc. ( Bobby Roode and James Storm).

World Wrestling Entertainment (2009-2010)

On May 14, 2009 Hoyt debuted under his real name in the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Development League Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) with a loss to Justin Angel . From July 2009, Hoyt appeared as Vance Archer . In the November 3, 2009 issue, Hoyt made his WWE ECW debut when he defeated Logan Jones. After WWE ECW was discontinued on February 16, 2010, Hoyt returned to FCW. On May 18, 2010, he moved to SmackDown , where he tagged with Curt Hawkins . Hoyt lost his last WWE match on November 2, 2010 against Luke Gallows at Superstars . He was released on November 19, 2010.

New Japan Pro Wrestling (2011-2015 and 2017-2020)

On June 18, 2011, Hoyt made his Dominion debut as Lance Archer in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW). There he joined the stable Suzuki-gun . With Minoru Suzuki he was able to defeat Satoshi Kojima and Togi Makabe. In September 2012, Davey Boy Smith Jr. joined Suzuki-gun. With this, Hoyt formed the Tag Team Killer Elite Squad . Together they won the IWGP Tag Team Championship from TenKoji (Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Satoshi Kojima) at King Of Pro-Wrestling on October 8, 2012 . In the NWA Houston Parade Of Champions: A Tribute To Paul Boesch on April 20, 2013 they also won the NWA World Tag Team Championship from Kingz Of The Underground (Ryan Genesis and Scot Summers). From then on, Hoyt and Smith defended this title at NJPW. They lost the IWGP Tag Team Championship on May 3, 2013 at Wrestling Dontaku to TenKoji. To this they also lost the NWA title on November 9, 2013 at Power Struggle . In the same match there was a second case for the IWGP Tag Team Championship, which Hoyt and Smith were able to win here a second time. On January 4, 2014, they lost the title to Bullet Club members Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson . On October 13, 2014 at King of Pro Wrestling, Hoyt and Smith again received the NWA World Tag Team Championship from TenKoji. They held the title until October 10, 2015, when they lost it to The Heatseekers (Elliot Russell and Sigmon) at a National Wrestling Alliance Mid-South event.

Between January 2015 and January 2017, Hoyt did not run for NJPW. On September 24, 2017, Hoyt and Smith received the IWGP Tag Team Championship from War Machine (Hanson and Raymond Rowe) for a third reign. On January 4, 2018, they lost the Wrestle Kingdom title to Los Ingobernables de Japon (EVIL and SANADA). In March 2019, Smith left NJPW. Hoyt was allowed to win the vacant IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship in a match against Juice Robinson on October 14, 2019 after reigning champion Jon Moxley was unable to arrive due to a typhoon . He lost the title to Jon Moxley on January 4, 2020 at Wrestle Kingdom. On February 1, 2020, Hoyt played his last match for NJPW with a loss to Jeff Cobb .

Pro Wrestling NOAH (2015-2016)

On January 12, 2015, Hoyt made his debut together with Suzuki-gun at Pro Wrestling NOAH . On February 11, 2015, Hoyt and Smith received the GHC Tag Team Championship from TMDK (Mikey Nicholls and Shane Haste). They lost the title on May 28, 2016 to Naomichi Marufuji and Toru Yano. Of these, they won the title a second time on November 23, 2016 and lost it on December 3, 2016 to Go Shiozaki & Maybach Taniguchi. This was also Hoyt's last match for Pro Wrestling NOAH before returning to NJPW.

All Elite Wrestling (since 2020)

On February 26, 2020, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) announced that they had signed a contract with Hoyt for several years. In the March 11, 2020 issue of Dynamite , Hoyt appeared alongside manager Jake Roberts for the first time in an AEW show. On April 1, 2020, he played his first AEW match at Dynamite, defeating Marko Stunt.
