Vanden Plas is a German progressive metal - band .

history

The band Vanden Plas has existed since 1986. It was founded by singer Andy Kuntz (* November 20, 1962), lead guitarist Markus Ziegler (* 1960), guitarist Stephan Lill (* November 30, 1968), drummer Andreas Lill (* November 3, 1968) 1965), bassist Holger Münz (born May 19, 1963) and keyboardist Ulrich Knapp (born 1959). In the beginning they recorded demos and played in various clubs in Kaiserslautern. Originally the band was known as Exodus; however, they were ultimately not attributed to this because the band Exodus already existed that same year .

In 1994 her first album was released : the self-produced CD Color Temple , which was also released as a special edition with two bonus tracks in France and Japan . The EP AcCult also sold better in France than in Germany. In addition to acoustic versions of your own songs, you can also find cover songs on it. a. Des hauts, des bas by Stephan Eicher , Georgia on My Mind by Ray Charles and Kayleigh by Marillion .

In 1997, the progressive rock label InsideOut released the second album The God Thing , with which the band played a tour as opening act for Dream Theater . Two years later the third album Far off Grace was released .

In the spring of 2000, the band recorded the live album Spirit of Live in Élysée Montmartre, Paris . In the same year the debut album Color Temple was reissued and appeared with a bonus CD, followed in 2002 by the studio album Beyond Daylight . Markus Teske, who had also recorded the live album for the band, was responsible for the production.

Stephan Lill, Günter Werno and Andreas Lill have since recorded the Consortium Project trilogy, a project by Elegy singer Ian Parry, with other greats from the progressive metal scene.

From October 2005 to February 2006, Vanden Plas returned to Markus Teske's Bazement Studio near Idstein and recorded their fifth album Christ 0 - a concept album inspired by Alexandre Dumas ' novel The Count of Monte Christo . The album was released on March 30, 2006. It was implemented as a musical and premiered on April 11, 2008 in Munich at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz . On January 24th 2010 the premiere of Christ 0 took place in the Pfalztheater in Kaiserslautern.

While the band filled concert halls in France and regularly traveled to the ProgPower Festival in the USA, similar successes in Germany have so far not been achieved.

Others

In addition to their albums, the five musicians were increasingly concerned with the theater as their second mainstay. After the Saarland State Theater offered Andy Kuntz the role of Simon Zealote in Jesus Christ Superstar in 1993, the conductor Scott Lawton suggested that the band should be able to participate in the orchestra. Since then, the band members have become regulars in the orchestra pit for pieces like The Rocky Horror Show , Der kleine Horrorladen or Evita . In the 2006 season Andy Kuntz received good reviews for his interpretation of Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Augsburg open-air theater at the Red Gate .

At Wolfgang Hohlbein's request, the band set the novel cycle " The Chronicle of Immortals - Blood Night " to music as a rock opera. The world premiere took place on January 21, 2012 in the Pfalztheater in Kaiserslautern.

2003 was a year with personal setbacks for singer Andy Kuntz: within a few months he had to come to terms with the deaths of his father, his uncle and two of his best friends. Andreas Lill, Stefan Glass and Michael Kraus helped him - with the result of Abydos , the singer's first solo CD. At the same time as the CD was released, Kuntz worked on the implementation as a musical . On February 25, 2006, Abydos celebrated its premiere as a rock musical at the Pfalztheater in Kaiserslautern .
