Vasileios "Vasilis" Kavvadas ( Greek Βασίλειος "Βασίλης" Καββαδάς , born December 28, 1991 in Korydallos ) is a Greek basketball player who is 2.06 m tall and is used in the center position.

Career

At club level

Kavvadas came from the youth departments of Ionikos Nikaias and made his debut for this in their first team for the 2008/09 season in the Gamma Ethniki , the fourth highest division in the Greek basketball competition for club teams. For the 2010/11 season Panionios Athens brought him into the A1 Ethniki , the top division of basketball competition. The center came to seven appearances in its first season for the Athens club and was part of the permanent rotation of the squad from the second season. In 29 games Kavvadas came to 160 points and 85 rebounds. The Greek, who was newly appointed to the national team, has long attracted the interest of the two big clubs Panathinaikos and Olympiakos . Panionios, however, refused an early move from Kavvadas to one of the two top teams and gave him no clearance. The center played alongside players like Marios Batis or the newcomers Nikos Pappas and Giorgos Bogris for the Panionios in 2012/13. Due to an injury at the beginning of the season, which made him sideline for several weeks, his debut in the Eurocup , for which the Panionios had qualified last season by a third place in the league , postponed . The Athens team lost the first four games of the group stage and after recovering from injury, Kavvadas made their debut in the fifth game when Panionios defeated Telenet Oostende with 101: 100 points and thus celebrated their first victory in the fifth game. In the sixth and last game Panionios defeated the Stelmet Zielona Góra with Kavvadas with 85:84 points. With a total of two wins from six games, they were eliminated beforehand.

As part of the ESAKE All-Star-Game- Weekend 2013, Kavvadas was nominated for the youth game and was the winner of the youth slam-dunk competition. With Panionios Kavvadas finished third again after failing in the semi-finals of the playoffs at the eventual champions Panathinaikos. Furthermore, the interest of the two top clubs in signing the Panionios center was great and while Olympiakos strengthened itself with Dimitris Agravanis , another talent in the ranks of Panionios, Kavvadas began the 2013/14 season again in the Panionios squad and played with them again in the Eurocup . However, at the beginning of December 2013, during the current season, Kavvadas finally switched to Olympiacos Piraeus, with whom he signed a five-year contract, and from then on played for this in the Euroleague , the most highly endowed competition for club teams in European basketball. He made his debut in this competition on December 5, 2013 in the game against FC Bayern Munich which Olympiacos had defeated with 105: 103 points. In the first division, which has since been renamed the Basket League , Kavvadas made 18 appearances for his new club.

The season 2014/15 was held by Kavvadas as a backup of the two centers set in the rotation. So he came up with little working time. With the departure of Bryant Dunston for the 2015/2016 season , Kavvadas hoped to be able to stand behind Othello Hunter in the rotation. However, the club's management preferred access to a new center and signed Patric Young from Galatasaray Istanbul . After consultation with those responsible, Kavvadas was awarded to the promoted Arkadikos from the fourth match day . While Young was out for the whole season due to an injury only a few days later and Olympiakos had to look for a replacement, Kavvadas played one of his best seasons with the newly promoted team. Although he could not prevent Arkadiko's direct relegation from the first division, he was still one of the best centers in the first division. With 312 points from 21 games, Kavvadas brought it to 14.86 points and 6.8 rebounds per game and also earned several double doubles that season. In the summer of 2016, the Center was then his contract with Olympiakos dissolve as they continue not planning with him as a regular force, he that for the season 2016/17 of Aris Saloniki can take under contract could.

National team

Kavvadas was in the squad of the U-18 selection at the 2009 European Junior Championships in France . In 2012 he was nominated for the first time for the senior squad and played for the Greek national team in the 2013 Acropolis tournament and the subsequent European championship .
