The Vehn Castle is a castle near the forest of Löhndorf , a suburb of Sinzig in the district of Ahrweiler ( Rheinland-Pfalz ). The castle is a monument worth protecting .

history

The first mention of Vehn is by Schenkungs us 1019 certificate of Archbishop Heribert of Cologne handed down that the monastery Deutz donated goods. After 1266 the farm and the goods were first given to the Burgraves of Landskron as a fief , after 1370 to Messrs. Colve von Ahrweiler and finally in 1564 to Wilhelm von Orsbeck .

The north wing of this two-wing complex is marked with the year 1753, although major renovations were carried out in the first half of the 19th century. There were stepped gables added and part of the plant was plastered. The main wing has a coat of arms of the von Hocherbach family , who were feudal lords from 1676 to 1795, and a four-sided roof turret . During the French rule in the Rhineland , the ecclesiastical goods were confiscated and auctioned by the French state. The castle was acquired by Bahlsen in 1965 and is owned by a community of heirs of the von Nordeck and Bahlsen families.

chapel

The current chapel construction dates back to the 17th century and has unusual proportions. The nave is only 3.95 meters long and 2.75 meters wide; the choir, on the other hand, is 5.65 meters long and 2.75 meters wide. Only the baroque altar from 1690 can be seen from the furnishings on site. As long as the village of Löhndorf did not have its own pastor and church, the residents had to celebrate the service in the castle chapel. After the establishment of its own parish and the construction of the church in the village in 1830, the castle chapel was only for private use.
