The diocese Velletri-Segni ( Latin Dioecesis Veliterna-Signina , Italian Diocesi suburbicaria di Velletri-Segni ) is a suburbicarian diocese and as such belongs to the ecclesiastical province of Rome . The seat of the diocese is Velletri .

The diocese was created in 1981 through the union of the Velletri diocese with the Segni diocese , initially under the name "Velletri and Segni", from 1986 under the current name Velletri-Segni. The two original bishoprics were founded in the vicinity of Rome in the 5th century . Velletri was united with the diocese of Ostia from 1150 to 1914 .

On April 25, 2005, Cardinal Francis Arinze became Cardinal Bishop of Velletri-Segni and thus successor to Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger , who held this office until his election as Pope .
