Career

youth

Arze began his active career as a football player in the famous Tahuichi football academy and from there joined the offspring of Club Blooming . He stayed in his hometown until 1999, before moving to the youth department of the Argentinian first division club Newell’s Old Boys at the turn of the millennium . At around the same time, FIFA World Player of the Year 2009, Lionel Messi , left Los Leprosos , the Argentine club's nickname. Even today Vicente Arze declares that he is still a fan of the current FC Barcelona player. With the Argentines he was used in various youth league classes until 2004 and attended the club's own academy from 2000 to 2002.

After returning to Bolivia in 2004, he decided to go to the United States to study and play successful college football . Immediately after his arrival in the USA, he enrolled at Mercer University and was accepted there shortly afterwards. In his freshman year he was used in 21 championship games, of which he was on the field in 20 from the start and scored a total of three goals and made seven assists. In the same year he was named Atlantic Sun Conference Freshman of the Year and elected to the All-Atlantic Sun First Team . Overall, he came in his first year with the Mercer Bears , the sports team of the university, on 67 shots on goal, which he ranked first in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

Because of his achievements, Arze was re-elected to the all-first team at the conferences the following year . During the season he had eight hits and three assists in 14 games. After seven goals and one assist in another 14 championship games, the young Bolivian was elected to the All-Atlantic Sun Second Team in his junior year 2006 . During the season, Arze scored a hat trick in one game and scored a brace in another. The midfielder was once again elected to the all-second team of the Conference in his final senior year, during which he convinced of his quality as a midfielder in 19 games when he scored five hits and seven assists. During his entire time at Mercer University, Arze came to a total of 68 championship appearances, 23 goals and 18 assists.

Club career

Vicente Arze is next to Richard Perdomo , who was first active in US football and later moved to the top football league of Honduras , and Roberto Cronembold Aguilera , who is currently with Club Deportivo Guabirá , the promoted from the second-rate Bolivian Copa Simón Bolívar in the Liga de Fútbol Profesional Boliviano is one of the few players who made the leap from Mercer University to professional football. But Arzes entry into professional football began slowly when he received a promising spot in the 2008 MLS Supplemental Draft and was drafted as the 25th pick in the second round to the Kansas City Wizards . There, however, he was not offered a professional contract, which is why he only accepted a one-year contract with the Vancouver Whitecaps shortly after his draft to Kansas City , which at the time was still playing in the second-rate North American USL First Division (USL-1).

In his first season at the new club, he was used in the official league as well as in friendly matches against MLS franchises and in the 2008 Canadian Championship . Arze made his professional debut in the first round on April 12, 2008 in a 1-0 win over Canadian rivals Montreal Impact . For his first goal as a professional footballer he came on May 24, 2008 in a 1-0 away win over the Portland Timbers . In the same week he and his teammate Adrian Cann were elected to the USL-1 Team of the Week because of his goal . At the end of the season, the Whitecaps were one point behind the strong offensive Puerto Rico Islanders FC in the end table of the regular season in second place. In the subsequent playoffs, Teitur Þórðarson's team was able to prevail on October 12, 2008 in the final against the Puerto Rico Islanders 2-1 and was therefore celebrated as the USL-1 champions.

At the Canadian Championship 2008, during which the Bolivian came to two short appearances, the Vancouver Whitecaps only reached third and thus last place in the competition. Together with Osvaldo Alonso of Charleston Battery and Martín Núñez of the Carolina RailHawks , he was one of the contenders for the Rookie of the Year award of the USL First Division. Throughout the season, he made 26 league appearances in which he scored one goal and gave two assists.

On December 16, 2008, Arze and the board of the Whitecaps agreed on a contract extension for the Bolivian midfielder for another year. In the 2009 season he came to further league appearances and was awarded the Whitecaps Blue & White Award together with Lyle Martin . In addition, was awarded in the same year in his home to Club Aurora in the top division of the country, where he came to two league appearances.
