Viktor von Gramich

Viktor Gramich , knight of Gramich since 1888 , (born November 19, 1828 in Augsburg , † September 30, 1897 in Munich ) was a Bavarian lieutenant general .

Life

Gramich was the son of a bank clerk. After graduating from the Cadet Corps , he was transferred to the 1st Artillery Regiment of the Bavarian Army on July 27, 1847 as a Junker . Transferred to the 2nd Artillery Regiment as a sub-lieutenant in 1848 , Gramich became a first lieutenant there in 1851 and from 1854 worked for one year as an adjutant at the artillery command of the Landau fortress . He then served as a teacher of artillery science and weapons theory at the cadet corps. In March 1857 he was transferred back to the 1st Artillery Regiment and after two years he was promoted to captain . As such, in the war against Prussia in 1866, he led the 1st  battery in the battles near Kissingen , Helmstadt and Roßbrunn and was awarded the Knight's Cross, 2nd class of the Order of Military Merit with Swords.

Relocated to the 2nd Artillery Regiment as a major in 1868 , Gramich led the 1st Division of the Artillery Reserve Department of the 1st Army Corps in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 . He took part in the battles at Beaumont , Sedan , Artenay , Orléans and Coulmiers . Gramich was wounded at Villepion and received the Iron Cross II. Class and the Knight's Cross I Class of the Order of Military Merit with Swords for his services .

After the peace agreement , Gramich served from July 29, 1871 to July 20, 1877 as director of the artillery and engineering school . At the same time he was promoted to colonel , he was then commander of the 1st foot artillery regiment "Bothmer" . Gramich gave this command on March 2, 1881 and commanded the 1st field artillery regiment "Prince Regent Luitpold" until September 11, 1883. Then promoted to major general, followed by his appointment as President of the Auditor General . After his replacement from this post, Gramich was appointed commander of the 2nd Field Artillery Brigade on March 20, 1884 . In 1888, Prince Regent Luitpold recognized his longstanding services by being awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Bavarian Crown . With the award the elevation to the personal nobility was connected and he was allowed to call himself "Ritter von Gramich" after the entry in the nobility register . On March 5, 1889 he was placed under presentation of the character as a lieutenant general for disposition .
