Currently (2019) the band consists of frontman Julián Trujillo Moreno ( vocals ), Juan Morales Moreno ( bass ), Julián Rodríguez ( drums ), Juan Camilo Morales Moreno ( guitar ) and Nicolás Jiménez Zapata ( bass ).

history

Founded in March 2002, the band initially played folk metal with death metal influences, but later changed the style of music. Betancur was replaced by Diego on guitar.

In February 2007 the band released their debut album Life in Death on the South American label Cannibal Natives , which had a great influence on the American , Mexican , Spanish and Swedish death metal scenes. The album received positive reviews in many South American metal magazines. These included reviews in Colombian magazines Darkness Magazine , Metal Harmony Magazine , Extreme , Ritual Zine , Cathedral Magazine and Metal 100% Colombiano . Shortly after the album was released, the drummer Vladdymir left the band and was replaced by Julian Rodríguez. The band played in Medellín on the Altavoz play-offs , where they won and thus had an appearance at Altavoz International together with Sepultura . This concert took place on October 15, 2007 and it was the first performance with a professional band.

The band also gave concerts all over Colombia and was invited by the American metal band Obituary to appear in their opening act , not least because of their steadily growing fan base . That was on April 27, 2008 in Bogotá . In July of that year the band released their second album Commanding the Obscure Imperius and was distributed by Extreme Cult Music . In order to make the album internationally known, the band went on a tour of South America for the first time ( Comandando la muerte a Sudamérica ). The album was sold all over South America and received mostly good reviews.

At the beginning of 2010 the band announced that they would take up Juan Carlos Henao as bassist and replace Kadir Cardona. By May 2010, the band produced their third album, which is called Death Metal 666 . A DVD for the album was also produced. The album was finally released on May 17th, 2010 under the title Death Metal 666 - Invoking the End . The cover shows Jesus of Nazareth nailed to a pentagram . On the left side stands a medicine man and on the right side the Egyptian god of the dead who rams a spear into Jesus' chest. Several skulls can be seen on pedestals.

On April 17th 2010 Vitam et Mortem played as opening act for the German band Nargaroth in Medellín . In August the band played with the band Monstrosity . The band wants to distribute the albums in Europe , Asia and the USA with a new label .

Music style and topic

The band plays death metal in the style of the 1990s. Influenced by Nile , Behemoth , Morbid Angel , Vital Remains , Cannibal Corpse and Dark Funeral . On the official Myspace presence, the band describes their music style as Brutal Death Metal with Black Metal influences or as Extreme Death Metal in the inlay of the album Life in Death . The band distances itself from the NSBM .

The music style is characterized by deeply tuned guitars, double bass and deep growls . In the songs Fire in My Soul and Dentro De La Magia De Las Sombras from the debut album, the band also uses folkloric musical instruments such as the panpipe . In the latter song, the singer uses clear vocals in addition to the guttural one.

The band's theme is mainly blasphemy . The song Black Metal by the band Venom was also released on their current album . The songs also sing about and criticize the expulsion of the South American natives and the colonization by the Spaniards with Hernán Cortés and Francisco Pizarro . On the cover of the new album, Jesus is shown nailed to a pentagram and the Egyptian god of the dead rammed a spear into his chest. The cover shows u. a. the anti-Christian side of the band members.

Individual songs are also about gods of Aztec mythology, such as the war god Huitzilopochtli in the song Blood for Huitzilopochtli from the album Death Metal 666 - Invoking the End and the god of the dead Mictecacihuatl in the song Mictecacihuatl I Invoke Her from the album Commanding the Obscure Imperius .

The band's lyrics are mainly written in Spanish , and some are sung in English . The texts mainly describe blasphemous backgrounds, the oppression of the South American indigenous peoples , the conquest of America by Cortés and Pizarro. In the song Satan My Force from the album Commanding the Obscure Imperius , the band also takes up satanic themes, and they often use druid feet in the inlay of the first album . The band members also represent misanthropic ideas.
