Vladimiras Dubeneckis

Vladimiras Dubeneckis ( Russian Владимир Иосифович (Осипович) Дубенецкий August 25 . Jul / 6. September  1888 greg. In zmeinogorsk in Tomsk Governorate ; † 10. August 1932 in Königsberg ) was a Russian - Lithuanian architect and university lecturer .

Life

Dubeneckis, son of an orthodox Lithuanian doctor , studied architecture 1906–1914 at the Russian Art Academy in St. Petersburg with LN Benois . 1917–1918 he was a lecturer at the Russian Art Academy. In 1918 he took part in the competition to create the bas-relief for the graves of the fallen heroes of the October Revolution on the Moscow Kremlin wall . His design The First Stone for the Foundation of the Future received the same number of votes as the design Winged Genius with the red flag in one hand and a palm branch in the other by ST Konjonkow , who was awarded the victory.

In 1919 Dubeneckis emigrated to Lithuania and taught at the art school in Kaunas until his death. He also worked as an architect in Kaunas. He built the Music Theater (1923), the hotel Lithuania (1923-1925), the St. Nicholas Church in Betygala , the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (1931-1933), the Čiurlionis -Kunstgalerie and Vytautas World War Museum (1931- 1936).

In addition to his work as an architect, he staged the operas Hoffmanns Tales by Jacques Offenbach (1925), Roméo et Juliette by Charles Gounod (1925), Lohengrin by Richard Wagner (1926) and the ballet Sylvia by Léo Delibes (1928) at the Kaunas Theater .

Dubeneckis was buried in the Petrašiūnai cemetery in Kaunas. He was married to the ballerina and painter Olga Dubeneckienė (1891–1967). A competition to preserve Dubenecki's artistic heritage is being held in Lithuania. The 1987 medal was awarded to Vytautas Nalivaika .
