Volkmar Vogel
Volkmar Uwe Vogel (born January 18, 1959 in Gera ) is a German politician ( CDU ), member of the German Bundestag and since February 14, 2020 Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister of the Interior, Building and Home Affairs (BMI).
Life and work
From 1975 to 1978 Vogel completed vocational training with a high school diploma as a skilled worker for machining technology at Carl Zeiss Jena and worked as a lathe operator and mechanic from 1980 to 1986. In addition to his job, he completed a distance learning course at the “Carl Zeiss” University of Applied Sciences in Jena from 1981 , which he completed in 1986 as a graduate engineer (FH) for device technology. Vogel then became technical director for slaughter, refrigeration and building technology at the Gera slaughterhouse . In 1991 he moved to the waste management association in East Thuringia, where he was responsible for waste disposal in Gera and the district of Greiz from 1992 and for future waste treatment in East Thuringia and the Großlöbichau landfill (SHK) from 2001 .
He is Protestant , married and has two daughters.
politics
Vogel joined the GDR CDU in 1981 . Shortly before the political turnaround in the GDR bird appeared for the first time to the elections to the district executive Gera-Land of the CDU in the GDR and was elected. In 1991 he was elected chairman of what is now the CDU district association Gera-Land. From 1993 to 2010 Vogel was chairman of the newly formed CDU district association in Greiz. Vogel belonged to the district council of the district of Greiz from 1990 to 1999 and again since 2004 . He has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2002 .
Vogel entered the Bundestag in 2002 via the Thuringia state list and in 2005, 2009 and 2013 as a directly elected member of the Greiz-Altenburger Land constituency . In the 2005 Bundestag election he received 31.7% of the first votes ; in the 2009 federal election he was able to improve this result to 37.4%.
In the 17th electoral term, Vogel was deputy chairman of the Committee on Transport, Building and Urban Development. Vogel was also an alternate member of the Committee on Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection .
In the 2013 Bundestag election , Vogel again improved his first vote result and entered the German Bundestag with 44.9% of the votes.
In the 18th electoral term, Vogel was a member of the newly constituted Bundestag Committee for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety . Vogel was also a deputy member of the Committee on Transport and Digital Infrastructure .
From 2014 to 2018, Vogel was a deputy member and from 2018 to 2020 a full member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe , where he belonged to the Group of the European People's Party .
In the 2017 federal election , Vogel won the Gera - Greiz - Altenburger Land constituency with 30.4% of the vote .
In the 19th electoral term until February 2020 he was a member of the Committee on Building, Housing, Urban Development and Local Authorities (as Deputy Chairman) as well as the Committee on Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety . He was also a deputy member of the Committee on Food and Agriculture and the Committee on Transport and Digital Infrastructure .
On February 14, 2020, Vogel was appointed Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of the Interior, Construction and Herimat (BMI) by Federal President Steinmeier at the proposal of Federal Chancellor Merkel . He succeeds Marco Wanderwitz (CDU), who was appointed Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy on February 11, 2020 . The change was related to the government crisis in Thuringia in 2020 and the dismissal of the Federal Government’s Eastern Commissioner Christian Hirte .

Vogel was a member of the administrative board of Sparkasse Gera-Greiz from 1999 to 2004 .
Since 2006 he has been a member of the board of the Volkssolidarität Kreisverband Altenburger Land eV and from 2010 to 2019 he was also the Deputy Chairman of the Technical Relief Organization (THW) , the State Association of Saxony and Thuringia eV in Altenburg.
Volkmar Vogel was a member of the Railway Infrastructure Advisory Board (EIB) from spring 2010 to February 2014 and a member of the supervisory board of Deutsche Einheit Fernstraßenplanungs- und -bau GmbH (DEGES) from 2010 to 2020 .
In September 2010 he became a member of the Officers' Home Society Pionierkaserne Gera eV and in November of the same year he became a member of the Verkehrswacht Gera eV Vogel has been working since 2011 as a member of the Political Parliamentary Advisory Board on Fire Protection of the Wirtschaftsverband Brandschutz eV WVB and the Gütegemeinschaft Brandschutz im Aufbaugung eV GBA , as well as a member of the Presidium of the German National Committee for Monument Protection . After his appointment as Parliamentary State Secretary, he resigned from the latter presidium membership.
From 2013 to 2020 he was also a member of the advisory board of Deutsche Rockwool Mineralwolle GmbH & Co. OHG .
