Volleyball World League 1998
The 1998 season of the World Volleyball League was the ninth edition of the competition. It started on May 15th and ended on July 19th. Cuba won the title for the first time.
mode
The preliminary round ("intercontinental round") was held in three groups of four teams each. The best teams in each group qualified for the next round. Italy was already set to host the Final Four. The remaining group winners and runners-up as well as the hosts Spain and Yugoslavia qualified for a play-off round divided into East and West. The two best teams from the west group and the group winners from the east reached the final four. The four teams determined the overall winner in the "everyone against everyone" mode.
