The foreplay - sports club for gays and lesbians Berlin e. V. (officially abbreviated as foreplay - SSL Berlin ), with over 1,600 members and a range of over 30 sports one of the largest LGBT - sports clubs in Europe .

history

On November 11, 1986, the club was initially founded as the Schwuler Sportverein Vorspiel (SSV) in West Berlin. The start-up was inspired by the participation of gay athletes from Berlin in the first Gay Games in San Francisco . In 1992 the first lesbian woman joined the club and after further female growth, the club name was changed to the current one. The desire for a common sports experience among friends without discrimination was decisive for the establishment of the club . When it was founded, homosexuals were still bluntly discriminated against and the new terrifying disease AIDS caused further exclusion. The common sport conveyed strength and cohesion among the participants. The fall of the Berlin Wall and the growing together of divided Berlin ensured that gays from East Berlin could now take part in the club's sports activities and many sports facilities in the former east of the city could be used. The number of members grew from 60 members in 1988 to 600 at the turn of the year 1992/1993. New departments were established accordingly quickly and the range of sports on offer became more and more diverse. In 2011, the association celebrated its 25th anniversary with a ceremony in the Bärensaal of the old town house and a celebration in the SchwuZ . In 2016, Vorspiel celebrated its 30th birthday with many tournaments, a colorful car on Berlin's Christopher Street Day and a big birthday party.

Club organization

The board of the Vorspiel SSL Berlin e. V. consists of five members. In addition to normal club operations and cooperation with sports associations, the board also works with other organizations such as B. the Lesbian and Gay Association in Germany e. V. (LSVD) and the Berliner Aids-Hilfe e. V. together and thus makes its contribution to the recognition of people living and loving differently in society. There is also regular and successful cooperation with the Seitenwechsel association , which is aimed at a purely female audience. In October 2018, Vorspiel - supported by Seitenwechsel , the German Olympic Sports Confederation , the Landessportbund Berlin and funded by the Hannchen-Mehrsitz-Stiftung , the Federal Magnus Hirschfeld Foundation and the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth - organized the first federal network conference of queer sports clubs, to intensify the cooperation between queer sports clubs in Germany and to exchange ideas with other guests from science, politics, society and organized sport, to develop new projects and to advance the fight against homophobia and transgender hostility in sport.
