Election to the Swedish Parliament in 1911
On September 10, 1911 , the first election to the Second Chamber of the Swedish Reichstag took place on the basis of the principle of equality : every man has one vote. There was still no right to vote for women.
This led to a shift in political weight. The conservatives around the previous Prime Minister Arvid Lindman lost influence, and the Social Democrats gained more.
The liberal Karl Staaff became Prime Minister in a coalition with the Social Democrats. In 1914 he resigned in protest against King Gustav V's armaments policy .
