Election to the city council of Berlin in 1920
The election for the city council of Berlin 1920 took place on June 20, 1920 and was the first election for the city council of Greater Berlin . The election was made necessary by the Greater Berlin Act , through which numerous suburbs were incorporated into Berlin with effect from October 1, 1920. The turnout was 64.7%. The winner of the election was the Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany (USPD) under Hermann Weyl with 38.4% and 48 seats. Second place went to the SPD under Hugo Heimann and the third to the German People's Party (DVP) under Wilhelm Caspari .
Other parties were the German National People's Party (DNVP), the German Democratic Party (DDP), the German Center Party , the Reich Party of German Medium-Sized Enterprises (WVgg), the list of “non-party women’s association” and the conservative individual candidate Karl Steiniger .
A coalition of USPD and SPD was formed under Hermann Weyl.
