Waldemar Fornalik (born April 11, 1963 in Myślenice ) is a Polish football coach .

Player career

Fornalik began his career in 1982 with Ruch Chorzów , with whom he became Polish champion in 1989 and with whom he ended his career in 1994. The defender had scored a total of 4 goals in 233 league games.

Coaching career

Following his playing career, he became a coach. In the 2018/19 season he led the Upper Silesian club Piast Gliwice to their first championship title in the club's history. He had achieved his greatest successes with Ruch Chorzów, namely third place in the Ekstraklasa in the 2009/2010 season, the Polish runner-up in the 2011/2012 season and two finals in the Polish Football Cup in 2009 and 2012 .

His engagement as coach of the Polish national team was less successful . After taking up this position on July 10, 2012, he was released from his duties on October 16, 2013 after a little more than a year and failed to qualify for the 2014 World Cup . After finishing this job, Fornalik returned to his former club Ruch Chorzów before taking over the team from Piast Gliwice for the 2017/18 season .

His brother Tomasz Fornalik , who was ten years his junior, was also a professional footballer and played for Ruch Chorzów and Ruch Radzionków in the Polish Ekstraklasa , among others . After Waldemar Fornalik was appointed Polish national coach, he took over his coaching post at Ruch Chorzów.
