Walk is a song by the US metal band Pantera . It was the fourth single from the sixth album Vulgar Display of Power .

Origin and content

The song is based on a guitar riff in 12/8 time , which is unusual for metal , which guitarist Dimebag Darrell played during a sound check on the tour of the previous album Cowboys from Hell . His bandmates liked the riff. According to drummer Vinnie Paul , the reef had a Shuffle - Groove , probably with the band roots in Southern rock would be related. Half-brothers Darrell and Paul grew up with bands like ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd . This shuffle groove was kept for the later song.

The lyrics were written by singer Phil Anselmo for friends of the band members, who suddenly treated the musicians differently after returning from the tour to the album Cowboys from Hell and thought that Pantera were now rock stars. With the text Phil Anselmo wanted to tell them to take their attitude and go. In addition, rumors would get around that Anselmo was now a rock star and arrogant.

A music video for the song was shot during a concert at the Riviera Theater in Chicago . According to Phil Anselmo, the band played the song four times that night to get enough material for the video. For the cover of the single, a picture of Phil Anselmo from the music video for the first single Mouth for War was used. In addition to the single, various EPs have been released that contain live versions as well as remixes by Godflesh guitarist Justin K. Broadrick and JG Thirlwell .
