Waltari Bergmann

Waltari Bergmann (born June 9, 1918 in Lichterfelde near Berlin ; † October 9, 2000 in Ziegenhain ) was a German historian , local researcher and educator .

Life

Waltari Bergmann was born in 1918 in Lichterfelde, then a suburb of Berlin, today part of the Berlin district of Steglitz-Zehlendorf. He visited in Bitterfeld the school and completed his teacher training at the College of Teacher Education in Cottbus. He was a teacher in Langenthal, Veithsteinbach and Eichenried. In World War II he was a soldier on both the Western and Eastern Fronts. After his release from captivity, he took over the management of the elementary school in Langenstein (near Marburg) in 1946. Here he met his wife Katharina, with whom he had two children. In 1950 he became head of the elementary school in Vockerode-Dinkelberg, and from 1961 he worked there as a secondary school teacher. From 1965 to 1981 he was the rector of the Georg-August-Zinn Center School in Altmorschen. In 1991 he retired. Waltari Bergmann died in Ziegenhain in 2000.

Act

Waltari Bergmann became known nationwide as a local researcher and writer. He has written more than 20 extensive books. In addition to his educational work, he was known throughout the region as a promoter of choral singing . For over 32 years he was chairman of the Heiligenberg singing group. For 24 years he was president of the Central German Singers' Association (MSB) with 52,000 singers and more than 800 choirs in 777 associations. In this context, he made presidential appearances in 2020. For almost 25 years he was the nature conservation officer of the former Melsungen district and chairman of the education and science union . Waltari Bergmann was one of the founders of the initiative to preserve the Haydau Monastery in Morschen .

Honors

Waltari-Bergmann-Platz was inaugurated in the center of the old town of Morschen to mark Bergmann's 100th birthday . In Heinebach (a district of Alheim ) a street was named after him as early as 1995.

In 1981 Waltari Bergmann became the first honorary citizen of the Morschen community. In the 1970s, the communities of Adelshausen and Bergheim had already honored him with it. Bergmann received numerous honors from regional associations a. a. the Honorary Letter of the State of Hesse , the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon , 1989 the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class , in 1994 the Hessian Order of Merit and the Louis Spohr plaque of the German Singers Association .
