Walter Sauermilch (chemist)

Walter Sauermilch (born November 13, 1902 in Wiesbaden ; † October 28, 1994 in Bad Kreuznach ) was a German chemist and local researcher .

Life

Walter Sauermilch was born in 1902 as the son of Julius Sauermilch (born January 19, 1856 in Allenbach ; † December 13, 1933 in Bad Kreuznach) and Helene Melsheimer (born February 1, 1867 in Bernkastel ; † December 1, 1953 in Löhne ) in Wiesbaden . He attended elementary school and high school in Bad Kreuznach.

He married Maria Schulz (born May 25, 1905 in Bad Kreuznach, † October 19, 1983 in Bad Kreuznach), with whom he had four children, Rosemarie, Walter , Hannelore and Helmut. After his graduation in 1922 sour milk began to study chemistry in Heidelberg and ended it in 1928 with the diploma . In 1930 he received his doctorate, his doctoral supervisor was Karl Ziegler .

Subsequently, he worked until 1934 as a manager at Sepdelen plant in Bad Kreuznach, before it for a year as an assistant to Karl Ziegler and Johann Achelis at the University of Heidelberg returned. In 1936 sour milk moved to Wittenberg. There he worked as a chemist in the Wasag explosives plant and was involved in the development of plastic explosives . From 1946 to 1959 he carried out research in the field of pyridine chemistry as an employee of the Raschig family's scientific laboratory . Numerous inventions and scientific publications resulted from this work , including the sour milk oxidation named after him . From 1959 he returned to Wasag, the central scientific laboratory in Sythen .

From 1971 sour milk worked as a local researcher in Bad Kreuznach.
