Walter Stern (skeleton pilot)

Walter Stern (born February 6, 1972 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian skeleton pilot .

Walter Stern was trained in his career by Alexander Müller and Michael Grünberger , among others . In December 1996, Stern made his debut in the World Cup at a race in Königssee , where he finished 27th. A year later he came in ninth in La Plagne for the first time in the top 10 of a World Cup race. His best result in 2003 was a second place in Altenberg . In 2000 and 2001 he only started in the newly established European Cup . In 2001 he finished second in the overall ranking behind Markus Penz .

In 1998, Stern started for the first time at world championships and was 13th in St. Moritz . With a total of three starts up to 2003, he never made it into the top 10. Stern achieved his greatest success when he became European champion in 2003 in St. Moritz. At national Austrian championships, Stern came third in 2003 and 2005.
