Amphoe Wanon Niwat ( Thai อำเภอ วานรนิวาส ) is a district ( Amphoe - Administrative District) in the Province of Sakon Nakhon . The province of Sakon Nakhon is located in the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .
etymology
The former name of Amphoe Wanon Niwat is Ban Kut Ling ( บ้าน กุด ลิง ), where Ling refers to the name of a tree ( ต้น หู ลิง , Thon Hu Ling ), so that the translation is: “Water that stops at ling trees flow".
The small ling trees used to be common in the area, but are rarely found today.

The Wanon Niwat district is located in the north of the Sakon Nakhon province and borders, clockwise from the north, with the Ban Muang , Kham Ta Kla , Akat Amnuai , Phanna Nikhom , Phang Khon , Sawang Daen Din and Charoen Sin district . All Amphoe are in Sakon Nakhon Province.

Wanon Niwat Amphoe was originally called Kut Ling and was renamed by King Mongkut (Rama IV) on August 6, 1861 . Mainly members of the Yo people settle here ,

- Khu Sakham (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล คู สะ คาม ), consisting of the entire tambon Khu Sakham.
- Nong Waeng (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล หนอง แวง ), consisting of the entire Tambon Nong Waeng.
- Na So (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล นา ซอ ), consisting of the entire tambon Na So.
- Kut Ruea Kham (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล กุด เรือ คำ ), consisting of the entire tambon Kut Ruea Kham.
- Wanon Niwat (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล วานรนิวาส ), consisting of parts of the tambon Wanon Niwat.
