Sakon Nakhon ( Thai : อำเภอ เมือง สกลนคร ) is a district ( amphoe - administrative district) in the province of Sakon Nakhon . The province of Sakon Nakhon is located in the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .
geography
The district of Mueang Sakon Nakhon is located in the extreme northeast of Thailand, extends over an area of 9605 km² and is about 650 kilometers from the capital Bangkok . It lies on a low plain of the Mekong and borders on a wooded mountain landscape to the south. In the northeast of the district is Nong Han Lake, the largest natural lake in northeast Thailand.
Neighboring counties are (clockwise from north): the Amphoe Kusuman , Phon Na Kaeo , Khok Si Suphan , Tao Ngoi , Phu Phan , Kut Bak and Phanna Nikhom of the Sakon Nakhon province.

- Sakon Nakhon (Thai: เทศบาล นคร สกลนคร ) consists of the entire tambon That Choeng Chum as well as parts of the Tambon Ngio Don, Huai Yang, Dong Mafai, That Na Weng and Hang Hong.
There are nine municipalities with "small town" status ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district:
- Ngio Don (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล งิ้ว ด่อน ) consists of the remaining parts of the Tambon Ngio Don.
- Mueang Thong Tha Rae (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เมืองทอง ท่า แร่ ) consists of parts of the Tambon Tha Rae.
- That Na Weng (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ธาตุ นา เว ง ) consists of the remaining parts of the tambon That Na Weng.
- Lao Po Daeng (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เหล่า ปอ แดง ) consists of the entire tambon Lao Po Daeng.
- Nong Lat (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล หนอง ลาด ) consists of the entire Tambon Nong Lat.
- Hang Hong (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ฮา ง โฮ ง ) consists of the remaining parts of the Tambon Hang Hong.
- Dong Mafai (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ดง มะไฟ ) consists of parts of the Tambon Khamin.
- Tha Rae (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ท่า แร่ ) consists of the remaining parts of the Tambon Tha Rae.
- Chiang Khruea (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เชียง เครือ ) consists of the entire Tambon Chiang Khruea.
