Amphoe Song Dao ( Thai : อำเภอ ส่องดาว ) is a district ( amphoe - administrative district) in the west of the province of Sakon Nakhon . The province of Sakon Nakhon is located in the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .

Phu Phan District is bordered from the north clockwise as seen in the Amphoe Sawang Daen Din and Phang Khon in the province of Sakon Nakhon and Amphoe Chai Wan of Udon Thani province .

history

The area of today's district is mountainous and used to consist of dense forest, in which robbers could hide well, which travelers on the way from Kalasin to Udon Thani often robbed. So this area was known under the name Song Dao Chon ( ช่อง ดาว โจร ), which means “robber cave”. After the government was able to secure the roads in the 19th century, it was renamed Song Dao ("Shining Star").

A "branch circle" ( King Amphoe ) Song Dao was established on April 1, 1972, by separating the three tambon Song Dao, Watthana and Tha Sila from the Sawang Daen Din Amphoe . On September 8, 1976, it was promoted to Amphoe.

Attractions

The Phu Pha Lek National Park extends over the Phu Phan mountain range that runs through the district.

There are five municipalities with "small town" status ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district:

Song Dao Nong Daeng (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ส่องดาว หนอง แดง ), consisting of parts of the Tambon Song Dao.
Tha Sila (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ท่า ศิลา ), consisting of the entire Tambon Tha Sila.
Watthana (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล วัฒนา ), consisting of the entire Tambon Watthana.
Pathum Wapi (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ปทุม วาปี ), consisting of parts of the Tambon Pathum Wapi.
Song Dao (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ส่องดาว ), consisting of the remaining parts of the Tambon Song Dao and Pathum Wapi.
