Warren Luening

Warren H. Luening Jr. (born October 9, 1941 in New Orleans , Louisiana , † March 18, 2012 ) was an American jazz and studio musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn ).

Live and act

Luening grew up in New Orleans, where he grew up with the city's jazz music tradition and played in a youth band early on. With Roy Wiegand and Charlie May he appeared on The Colgate Comedy Hour on CBS. He then played in Tony Almerico 's All-Stars, a New Orleans jazz band , before joining the orchestra of Lawrence Welk (1958-60). In 1963 he recorded the album Boy Meets Horn under his own name for Dot Records ; In the late 1960s he played in the Ronnie Dupont Quartet at The Bistro Nightclub in New Orleans.

From the 1970s he worked in Los Angeles , where he played in the big bands of Bob Florence and Frank Capp / Nat Pierce . Since then he has been working full-time as a soloist in Hollywood studios and has worked on recordings for film scores such as New York, New York (1977), Menschen am Ruß (1984), Bopha! (1993), The Glass Shield (1995), That Thing You Do!
