Wassel is a district of the city of Sehnde , southeast of Hanover . The oldest surviving document that mentions Wassel comes from the year 1183. Almuth Gellermann ( CDU ) is the local mayor .

history

In 1187 and 1198 a noble family is mentioned in a document that was the representative of the Hildesheim bishop and bore the title of count. It was named after the place Wassel and went out in the 12th century with Konrad II von Wassel .

In the 17th and 18th centuries, the work of pastors Julius Flebbe and his son Justus Daniel Flebbe is attested in the village church.

On March 1, 1974, Wassel was incorporated into the municipality, now the city of Sehnde.

religion

The Evangelical Lutheran parish in Wirringen-Müllingen-Wassel was merged with the parishes in Algermissen, Groß Lobke, Hotteln, Lühnde and Oesselse to form the Evangelical Lutheran Twelve Apostles parish in Sarstedt-Land in the Hildesheim-Sarstedt parish.

Culture and sights

  • The village church in Wassel is the oldest preserved building in the area of the city of Sehnde. According to a legend, it was built with the stones of a "lost castle ". Remains of a fortification can be found near the church, which was probably a village or churchyard fortification in the Middle Ages. In the fief book of the Hildesheim bishops, there is evidence of a castle site in 1458, although it is not certain whether it is this or the rampart outside the village.
  • In aerial photographs , the remains of the so-called Asseburg can be seen as a circular ring wall on an arable land on the western edge of Wassel . It has a diameter of 60 to 75 m. Since no archaeological investigation has yet been carried out, nothing is known about its structure, its construction and time of use. A formation in the early to high Middle Ages can be assumed.
