The Weißbach is an 8.6 km long, northwest and left tributary of the Saalach . It flows in the municipal areas of Inzell and Schneizlreuth in the Bavarian districts of Traunstein and Berchtesgadener Land ( Germany ).
geography
course
The Weißbach rises in the Northern Limestone Eastern Alps on the western slope of the Scharnkopf near the foot ( 1,355.7 m above sea level ). Its source pot is on the border of the communities Inzell (Traunstein district) and Schneizlreuth (Berchtesgadener Land district) on the edge of the Eastern Chiemgau Alps nature reserve in the waterhole cave at an altitude of about 750 m .
Initially, the Weißbach flows westward on the municipal boundary and, after leaving it, southward; henceforth it only runs in the municipality of Schneizlreuth. From the confluence of the Vorderen Schwarzachen, the brook flows south-eastwards and parallel to the federal highway 305 . He runs through the Schneizlreuth district of Weißbach on the Alpine road . The valley then narrows to the Weißbachschlucht gorge , a popular hiking destination.
In the core of the municipality of Schneizlreuth , the Weißbach flows into the mountain at an altitude of around 510 m - between the Ristfeuchthorn ( 1569.1 m ) in the west-northwest, the Rabensteinhorn ( 1363.2 m ) in the northeast and the Kienberg ( 1028.3 m ) in the south there from the southwest flowing Salzach- tributary Saalach .
Catchment area and tributaries
The catchment area of the Weißbach is 40.24 km. Its tributaries, which, like him, carry more water than usual, especially in spring when the snow melts, include downstream (l = left, r = right) : Vordere Schwarzachen (r), Stabach (l), Litzlbach (r), Scharnbach ( r), Höllenbach (l) and Kugelbach (l).
water falls
The Weißbach has numerous waterfalls ; this includes:

Bridge collapse
On August 24, 2017, an approximately 1.5 m high wooden bridge, which leads near Schneizlreuth over the Weissbach, which is only 20 to 30 cm deep, collapsed when numerous people positioned themselves on the bridge for a group photo. 11 children and adolescents between the ages of 10 and 17 were injured. One of the planks is said to have been "quite rotten".
