Weißenborn-Lüderode is a village in the Thuringian district of Eichsfeld . Since December 1, 2011, the formerly independent municipality has been part of the rural municipality of Sonnenstein . In the place is the seat of the rural community.

geography

The place is on the northeastern edge of the Eichsfeld in a basin of the upper Geroder Eller . To the south lies the Winkelberg (415 meters), a foothill of the Ohmgebirge and north of the Iberg (306 meters) and the Tellenberg (337 meters), which can be assigned to the Silkeroder hill country . The local part of Gerode with the former Benedictine monastery belongs to the local situation .

history

Weissenborn was first mentioned in 874 (Wizzanbrunno) , but the document itself came from the 11th century. In the “Fulda Summarium” from the year 874, the tithe that many Thuringian towns had to pay to the Fulda monastery was confirmed by King Ludwig. Ludwig had received Eastern France in the Treaty of Verdun in 843 when the great Franconian Empire was divided up. The fact that the area around Weißenborn-Lüderode belonged to the Gau “Onefeld” is evident from the fact that Weißenborn, even if it is not directly expressed, but can only be seen from inferences from documents, is referred to as being in the Gau “Onefeld” . In his “Summa Tradit. Fuld. cap. 11 No. 60 ”informs Eberhardus that Bernhere and Rihmut have given their goods, located in the Ohmfeld district, to the Fulda monastery. Another document shows that, despite many doubts, it is our Weissenborn today. In 1157, according to a document from that year, Abbot Eberhard from the Gerode Monastery and Abbot Marcward from the Fulda Monastery exchanged Fulda goods for others at the Gerode Monastery (see Johann Wolf: Political History of Eichsfeldes, Document Book of 1. Volume, p. 9). There is no question that these are goods that were given to the Fulda Abbey “in pago Onefeld”.

The village of Lüderode was first mentioned in writing in 1124 in connection with the founding of the Gerode monastery as Luidenrode and had market rights. Archbishop Gerhard incorporated the church in Lüderode with the chapel in Weißenborn (and two other churches) into the Gerode monastery in 1291.

The villages Weißenborn and Lüderode, which were still independent in 1840

Both villages were close to each other, but developed differently, while Lüderode was dominated by rural areas, in Weißenborn commercial enterprises predominated. They each had their own church and a municipal administration with a school, school and lay judges. The former monastery villages belonged to Kurmainz until the secularization in 1802 and ecclesiastically to the monastery district. With the abolition of the monastery in 1803, the parishes came to the parish of Jützenbach . From 1802 to 1807 Weißenborn and Lüderode became Prussian and then became part of the Kingdom of Westphalia . From 1815 to 1945 the places were part of the Prussian province of Saxony .

In October 1928 the previously independent villages Weißenborn and Lüderode, as well as the two manor districts Gerode-Domain and Gerode-Forst, were merged to form the new community Weißenborn-Lüderode . In 1945 the place became part of the Soviet occupation zone and from 1949 part of the GDR . From 1961 until the political change and reunification in 1989/1990, Weißenborn-Lüderode was affected by the closure of the nearby inner-German border . Weißenborn-Lüderode has belonged to the re-established Free State of Thuringia since 1990.

On December 1, 2011, the community Weißenborn-Lüderode merged with the seven other communities of the Eichsfeld-Südharz administrative community to form the rural community of Sonnenstein.

coat of arms

Blazon : In red with a triple corrugated silver shield base, a floating silver six-spoke wheel, crossed over it a flaming sword pointing diagonally down to the right and a lifting hoe in silver pointing up to the right.

The municipality Weißenborn-Lüderode with the district Gerode has a silver six-spoke wheel in the coat of arms, which refers to the earlier territorial affiliation to the Archbishopric and Kurstaat Mainz. As a talking element, the silver corrugated shield base reproduces the place name Weißenborn and stands symbolically for the source area of the Weißenborn and the Geroder Eller . In an equally eloquent way, the hoe is reminiscent of the Lüderode and Gerode districts created by clearing. The flaming sword as an attribute of the Archangel Michael symbolizes the patron saint of the Benedictine monastery Gerode, which accompanied and shaped the development of the community.
