Weidelewka ( Russian Ве́йделевка ) is an urban-type settlement in Belgorod Oblast in Russia with 7008 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is about 140 km as the crow flies east-southeast of the Oblast Administrative Center Belgorod , a good 10 km from the state border with Ukraine . It is located on the Urjewa, a left tributary of the Oskol .

Weidelewka is the administrative center of Weidelewski Rajon and the seat of the municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) Possjolok Weidelewka, which also includes the hamlet (chutor) Pridoroschny 6 km to the east .

history

The place goes back to the hamlet of Wyschnjaja Urajewka, first mentioned in 1742, which was bought by Major General Rodion Wedel († 1752) out of service in 1747 and subsequently named after him or his family - in a modified spelling.

On July 30, 1928, Weidelewka became the administrative seat of a newly created Rajons named after him. In 1972 the place received urban-type settlement status.

Regional road 14K-8 runs through Weidelewka from Nowy Oskol via Waluiki and on to Rowenki .

The nearest train station is in the city of Waluiki, 25 km to the west, where the Moscow  - Luhansk and Kharkiv  - Penza lines cross.
