Rowenki ( Russian Ровеньки́ ) is an urban-type settlement in Belgorod Oblast ( Russia ) with 10,264 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The settlement is located about 180 kilometers as the crow flies east-southeast of the Belgorod Oblast Administrative Center , a few ten kilometers from the border with Ukraine . The Ajdar , a left tributary of the Seversky Donets, flows through the village .
Rowenki is the administrative center of Rowensky Rajon .
history
The town was founded in 1650, when an ukase from Tsar Alexei Michailowitsch to fortify the southern border of the Russian Empire was published. 1708 Rovenki whose inhabitants the Bulavin had supported -Aufstand destroyed, 1,732 Cossacks of Ostrogoschsker settled regiment.
By the 19th century, the place developed into a regionally important rural trading center.
In 1928 the place became the seat of a district administration. In 1976 it received urban-type settlement status.

Culture and sights
In Rowenki is the eclectic Trinity Church ( Троицкая церковь , Troitskaja Zerkow ) from 1885. Since 1978 the local history museum of the Rajon exists in the place.
Economy and Infrastructure
In Rowenki there are mainly companies in the food industry.
The regional road R195 runs through the settlement from Rossosh in the neighboring Voronezh Oblast , where the nearest train station is located, to the Ukrainian border. In a north-westerly direction, the R187 runs from Rowenki via Waluiki to Nowy Oskol in the central part of Belgorod Oblast.
