The Leo Hillinger winery is an Austrian winery in Jois in the Leithaberg wine-growing region in Burgenland .
history
In 1990 Leo Hillinger (* 1967) took over the winery from his father of the same name and expanded the business into one of the largest private wineries in Austria . In 2004 the new cellar on the outskirts of Jois was completed.
The marketing of the Hungaro HILL series , whose wine comes from vineyards in the Hungarian wine-growing region of Mátrai borvidék, near Eger , began in 2006 . In the Palatinate wine region has Leo Hillinger layers under the name German Hill are marketed. In 2006, the company was incorporated into the Leo Hillinger Private Foundation based in Neusiedl am See under the Private Foundation Act , which is controlled by the Hillinger family.
Around 50 percent of total production is exported, particularly to Switzerland , the USA , Poland , Russia and other countries in Eastern Europe . Leo Hillinger's wines are also offered on cruise ships and Austrian Airlines flights .
Area under cultivation, grape varieties and cuvées
The cultivation area around Jois and Rust covers around 100 hectares (as of 2013), of which 50 hectares are owned by our own vineyards; the rest is cultivated by contract growers. 20 hectares are among the "best locations in Rust": Oberer Wald, Gmärk and Pandkruppen.
In addition to the classically developed red wines ( Blaufränkisch , Cabernet Sauvignon , Pinot Noir , St. Laurent , Zweigelt ) and the classically developed white wines ( Chardonnay , Grüner Veltliner , Pinot Grigio , Sauvignon Blanc , Welschriesling ), Hillinger offers a red wine cuvée under the name HILL 1 , as HILL 2 a white wine cuvée and with HILL 3 a Trockenbeerenauslese . HILLINGER Secco is a rosé sparkling wine made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes.
In October 2013 Leo Hillinger presented a new premium red wine cuvée called "Icon Hill" in the Albertina in Vienna . The bottle for this was designed by the British architect Zaha Hadid .
Hillinger shops
In 2005 Leo Hillinger opened the Hillinger flagship store in Parndorf, Burgenland . In 2009 the Leo Hillinger Wineshop & Bar opened in the "Designer Outlet Salzburg" in Wals-Himmelreich and shops of the same name in 2013 in Vienna , 2014 in Kitzbühel and 2016 in Munich .
