Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge ( Hindi , दिलवाले दुल्हनिया ले जाएँगे, Dilvāle Dulhaniyā le jāẽge; short notation DDLJ ; translated: The brave will take the bride away ; alternative title: First come, get the bride ) is an Indian film that was released in October 1995. The film has been shown in a cinema in Mumbai since 1995. Aditya Chopra made his directorial debut with this film and starring Shah Rukh Khan , Kajol and Amrish Puri .

The film is considered a milestone in the history of Bollywood cinema as it brought a breath of fresh air to Indian love stories by introducing Indians living outside of India ( Non-resident Indians ). Also, Switzerland is used as a filming location where much of the story and dance scenes took place; something that inspired many later films. Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014) is intended as an homage to this film. Many scenes and dialogues were taken over and built into the film.

action

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge tells the story of the Indians Raj and Simran who live in the UK . Raj comes from a wealthy family and enjoys life to the full. His father shows understanding and even allows him to travel to Europe, although he had recently learned that he had failed to graduate from college. Simran, on the other hand, suffers from her strict father, who forces her to marry Kuljeet, the son of a childhood friend, in India. She agrees, but asks her father to be allowed to travel to Europe with her friends before getting married.

Since Simran and Raj's group happened to take the same travel offer, they meet again and again. However, Simran is not enthusiastic about his advances and tries to avoid him. But when the two of them miss the train in Zurich , she is forced to travel on alone with Raj. They build a friendship through the days they experience together. Back in London, Simran invites him to her wedding. Since Raj has meanwhile fallen in love with her, he refuses and leaves Simran without further words. At that moment, Simran realizes that she loves him.

After Raj is encouraged by his father, he wants to prevent the marriage and finds her house. That is empty, however, because Simran's father postponed the trip to India after he learned of her love. Raj travels after her and manages to get involved incognito in the marriage preparations. He makes himself popular with the families and even gets the offer to marry Kuljeet's sister, Preeti. Thereupon his father comes to India and arranges the marriage with her, since he thinks she is Raj's love. When Simran's father discovered a vacation photo of Raj and her, he was discovered and had to leave the property.

Kuljeet feels betrayed and wants to take revenge on Raj with his friends. A brawl broke out at the train station and was only ended when Simran, her family and the von Kuljeet family showed up. Raj and his father have no choice but to get on the train. When it leaves, Simran wants to follow, but her father holds her wrist. At the last moment he finally lets go of her, since he is now convinced that no man can ever love her like Raj. She manages to jump on the train and is reunited with it.

Reviews

“A popular Bollywood romance in which future star Shahrukh Khan makes his first big appearance with his long-term partner Kajol. Heart, pain and songs are balanced, with the European part providing the humorous component, while in India the melodrama is more important. "
